Den / Re: winning attitude
« on: November 23, 2023, 09:32:42 AM »
This. UTEP is barely dedicated to having athletic programs. Just barely. Remember Wilson called them the front porch. What everyone sees. What the world sees is crap and she is happy. Dimel is happy. The fifteen hundred people at the game was happy. What will we do when Liberty MTU and WKU leave as will nmsu and JSU. We are dangling from the end of football rope and not even trying to keep from falling. Nmsu is laughing at UTEP.  That?s right. Wilson. Empty headed soccer ball adrift on the ocean.

If NMSUx can hire  a coach like Kill, there is ZERO reason why UTEP, who actually has a bigger athletic budget, can't!  For God's sake they beat Auburn, A_U_B_U_R_N!, at Jordan-Haire and we can't get by Middle Tennessee state.  Wilson HAS to make a commitment to winning and Dimel is NOT the answer.  Why he hasn't been let go yet is mind-boggling.

Teams who we competed with less than a decade ago are now moving into P5 conferences while we languish away further into irrelevance.  Price showed us that you can recruit to UTEP and you can field winning, competitive teams here.  The administration just has to step up to the plate.  *end of rant*

Den / Is There Hope?

Haven't been on the site for a while.  UTEP administration has a way of deflating my fandom.  So, my question is?  Is there hope for a Miner resurgence in the near future?  I just don't see it at the moment.  Hell, did UTEP FB even have a spring game? I haven't heard a word about it.  Our tried and true bread and butter, UTEP BB, has been uninspiring, to say the least.   Team that we were in a conference with less than 10 yrs ago and now moving into Power 5 conferences and we get pushed further and further down the shit pole of mediocrity.  Where are our leaders?  What the hell happened to  The Rabbit?  Gaaaahhhhhh!!!

I'm assuming you're being facetious?

It was Barbee and they found out he was leaving during or right before the game.  I want to say it came out at halftime.

It was halftime.  The game was up for grabs thru halftime and then, at the time, bizarrely, the team just looked like a mess in the 2nd half.  No one understood why until it came out after the game that Barbee was leaving. They were iInformed or the team found out at halftime.  We should've made at deep run in the tourney that year.  We were stacked but unfortunately ran into to a red hot Butler squad in the first game.

I'm paying $9k/semester for my kid to go to TX Tech. That is everything. Food, Dorm, classes, etc., & it doesn't include Bball & Football games. Students pay $10 to get in. All other sports come with fees. $600 more a semester is the price to pay for success. It will make UTEP a destination school & not just a commuter school.

Early 90s, I was paying $175/semester just for parking at USC!  Price of admission or leave your car on the streets of South Central and hope it's not on blocks when you come back......

Anyhow, even $15 per credit hour for 15K students would generate $2.7 mil per semester.  Goes a long way to paying for quality HCs in both FB and BB.

Agreed.
That BS Natalicio had a few years ago for students to vote on a small fee. Grow a pair & know this is the cost to come here & here is what it includes. People will come no matter what.
Agreed.  $50 per credit hour is not a big ask but would generate a good chunk of change towards coach's salaries.  Would put us on a level playing field with other high end mid-majors.

Did rabbit ever come back?

Oh go eff yourself Ky!!

Just kidding.  My absence here is directly correlated to the shit show that UTEP FB fell back into.  We're quickly heading into the 2 cans of soup for entry phase again and I just couldn't bear it.  Had to detach.  Thought about all of the fine folks that come over here from Digs and now felt ready to once again be a glutton for pain with UTEP FB.  I hate myself.  *nyuk*

Dimel/Senter:  We have laid the foundation and our days of FB ineptitude are behind us!

Inept UTEP Football:  Not so fast!

I don't think we lost because we had less talent than NMSU.  If you looked at the stats we just killed them.  Except, they killed us.  Not because they were better or had more talent.  They won because we played UTEP football.  And, I am not just raggin' on the team.  We would rip off yards on the ground in big chunks be not be able to get two yards in three tries?  We are down seven and get the ball back and run the ball during the last minute.  Just weird shit where we like go fifty yards in two plays and then backwards thirty.  There was a quarterback battle going on until the kickoff of the first game, Metz is a passing quarterback with all kinds of experience trying to pull a game out of his ass, but we stay with Locksley.  But, the offensive line, evidently is good enough to control the clock for 48 minutes, run all over the Sun Bowl(except the no go end zones) but can't get a yard when they need it, but at least they have no idea of how to pass block.  NMSU was pulling sacks out of their ass like condoms out of drug smugglers.  Our talent on defense held Tennessee to a respectable score and were pretty much three or four stuffs and then touchdown.  Most of the time playing pretty good defense until whoops!  I mean our talent killed them in the stats, except for that pesky point tally.  The Aggies won the game but didn't beat us.  The two teams go out and spaz around, swinging their pillows so hard that they throw their shoulders out, hit themselves in the face, pull muscles and never make contact with the other team, purposely.  Occasionally, the run into each other but any hits landed are purely due to luck.   They just happened to come out on top again.  I would like to be able to say that if we played them five more times we would win four of them.  But, I can't.  Because, we are UTEP football.  Saying that we can win one in a row is just talking out of your ass.

All time great post, Ky!  LOL! So much truth that it really sucks that it made me laugh this hard but alas, is there anything about UTEP FB in the last 35 yrs that doesn't make us laugh?

when it comes to losing, UTEP defies all and finds a way.  I would never bet on UTEP winning.

Facts.

14. Green Bay Packers

Will Hernandez, G, UTEP. The Packers undoubtedly know the impact quality guards can have on a team, as their offense ran most efficiently when T.J. Lang and Josh Sitton dominated on the interior in Green Bay. Some will see this as a bit early for Hernandez. After the first month of the season, it'll be obvious why the Packers picked him.

He was initially a 2nd/3rd rounder, then peaked at late 1st round. Last week was inching closer to early 20's and now just outside the 10th pick.  Amazing.  This nugget of a great man, did wonders for himself in the Senior North South Bowl.

Probably the highest "pick"  for a UTEP  Miner yet.   Be nice to block for Jones.

While that would be fantastic, I don't think it's realistic.  I think he goes in the top of the 2nd rd.
