  • Great.
He needs a lot of playing time. I'm happy he'll be able to play @ NMSU.

  • He's been getting a lot of hype from posters here and I sure hope they're right. The way I understand their posts is that he might be the best player on UTEP's roster. Now, that would be great as many players have come to UTEP as saviors to the team. Fingers crossed.

  • The difference is Tarke came out of JUCO & Archie was a 4☆ with D1 experience.

  • Tarke played for Div 1 NJIT, not a Juco. He was their leading scorer, I believe.

OK, my bad. Still a big difference between the 2 conferences as well as schools at this time. Jamie Dixon has been recruiting 4-5☆ kids like crazy. Archie didnt have a chance to prove himself where his time was minimized. Personally, I think Tarke is taking longer to acclimate to CRT style of game. I think both Tarke & Archie have great motors, but the difference is talent. You'll see it come the 1st game you see him play. He may need a few games to get the rust out, but you will see the talent difference immediately.

  • About McGriff. Great pick up. I think the kid will need time to acclimate to the speed of D1 play, but has all the tools to be q good PG. I've seen lots of film on this kid & his court vision, ball skills, & passing is really good. However, he looks slow at the high school level. He performs well because other PG defending him are under 6' while he is 6'6". I think the kid needs to get stronger to control his long body in a PG position. Overall a really good pick up.

  • It's hard to say on the speed.  Agree that he doesn't have D1 PG speed, but I see him as more of a SF role at UTEP, and he may have the speed for that.

  • I have always loved having the idea of a long, big team... we have what one player under 6’3 ? I love it... think it gives other teams nightmares with our size...

Then CRT needs to look for a PG, because we really dont have one. Boum & Lathon are SGs forced to play a PG. Boum is just too fast and worried about getting open more than looking for players. Lathon is better at the top of the key, but needs to get better with ball skills & passing, however, when the game is on the line, I want the ball in his hands.

  • I am comfortable with Lathon at point.  We don't have a clear backup however, and that is a concern.
Prince Stewart was a very good point guard, but when he was point he couldn't score as effectively as at SG, and that is what happens to Boum.  Lathon still seems to be able to generate his own offense as well as keep ours running.

My money right now is on Stroud becoming the guy that can move to point when Lathon needs to sit.  For now though it's apparently Boum.

  • First off. Archie is a guard and not a SF. I also don't understand how people think Lathon is not good handling the ball. To date he has 8 turnovers, which is the lowest of the three guards who play extended minutes. One of the reasons he transferred from TCU was because he wanted to play guard. The key with CRT is the ability of players to defend multiple positions. This is why CRT did not like Gilyard and McGee. They were a defensive liability when they would switch on defense. Archie can defend the 1-3 spots and possibly the 4. I also wonder if CRT will use some zone defenses like Syracuse. I think with the length of this team, it would/could give other teams fits.

  • 36-30 half time. Archie definatley has rust, but should have had a few assists, but it appears a few kids had stones for hands. Tarke great on scoring, but lost the ball a few times & was pulled out. Stroud needs to let go & just attack. William's is unstoppable. Lathon not playing much to give Hawkins, Stroud, & Archie more playing time.
