  • I decided that with all of the time I have, that I would check to see just how Special Teams looks statistically.

Blocked Kicks-Tied with 35 others at 14th ranked
    Kicks blocked-Tied at 92 with 1 in 6 games
0 Blocked Punts the same as about 100 teams
Punts Blocked tied with about 20 at 97th with 1
    Kick off return defense #50
    Kick off returns  63
    Net Punting 99 @36.79
    Punt returns 90
Field Goals per game 130  1/3 in 5 games
    Punting 41 Josh Sloan

For some reason unknown to me UTEP is one of 3 teams not listed in punt return defense.
But, of the three teams, offense, defense, and special teams, special teams is not the problem.  That is the one team that looks normal to decent.

Here is some more.  I looked at Offense and then Defense.
    Offense
    Completion %  120 @53%
    First Down Offense #2
    Passes Int 128
    Pass Off 99
    Pass yds/comp  50
    Rush Off  61
    Total Offense  94

    Defense
    First down Defense 127
    Passes Int 108
    Pass Yards Allowed  44
    Rush Defense 115
    Scoring Defense 99
    Total Defense 91

    Time of possession #22
    Fewest Penalties 121
    Few Pen /gm  114
    Few Pen Yds/gm 117

    Total offense 94
    Total defense 91
Special Teams-Look at the numbers.  I think would be the best ranked of the three.

The point is that if our team was ranked in the 90's the team rpi instead of ranked 130th  we wouldn't appear to be the 4th worst team in the country.  To me it appears to be a discrepancy built upon the shoulders of Dimel.  The three coordinators are punching above their weight.  They are doing what they can with what Dimel has allowed.  That is what is so weird about this team, to me.  It is like if they would just play normal fucking football instead of turtle ball they might be pretty good.  But we are 1 and 5 with the win coming against a power in Incarnate Word and staring at a winless remainder of our games.  This is UTEP football.  Should be so much better, but due to the people in charge it is so much worse.
