I know that everyone is bummed about the score and what could have, should have been. There is a tendency to put it all on the young man's shoulders. He had no experience in JC and is not really a field goal kicker type of thing. First and almost completely, this is on the coach. If my memory serves me correctly, and that is more and more iffy, Kugler didn't even bother with a Special Teams Coach at one point and I don't know if that changed, but it gives you an idea of the emphasis he placed on that aspect of the game. It was an afterthought at best. With that in mind, I watched many practices when Price was there and there is no way in Hell a non-field goal kicking field goal kicker would be able to stay on the practice field. So, either they weren't even looking, they weren't even allowing, or they were seeing, field goals being kicked in practice. With that in mind, field goal kickers are like golfers, the thing can kind of go away and be hard to get back. A club to the head from a wife can have long term affects on the best golfer in the world. The kid's head may have gotten away from his leg in a huge game. We don't want to add to it. This week, CMP will get a handle on that situation immediately. I guess my point is, There probably wasn't enough attention being given o that aspect of the game, or it was and the three missed kicks were not representative of what had been happening in practices. Either way, I don't expect we will see that same problem again this season.
