  • To begin with, the state of the nation in sports must be looked at globally.  So that is where we will begin-globally and then work our way down to the local level.  Normally, I would cut to the chase and get down to the local level, our Miners and work up as it fits on hierarchical levels of relevance.  But all of this has to begin with a recognition that world health and the effects it has brought have hit sports like nothing ever has in human history.  That isn't hyperbole.  No sport in human history has ever had the impact on humanity than since the advent of global communications and media outlets that have allowed fans to be the enormous mass it has grown to be.  So, when they are shut down, it has had that kind of impact.  The economic breakdown of that in our economic system was way beyond my ability to even guess.  So, there is that and then there is the aspect of how our sports fit in on a global political and economic way.  The NBA in Communist China is a subject many books will be written about.

We discovered that managing sports was going to be like keeping frogs in a wheelbarrow.  In some ways we learned to adjust and manage but there were still a number of bowl games that were canceled.  The college basketball schedule to this day has as many or more games listed as forfeited or postponed as there are that actually play.  Tied to all of this, the NCAA made adjustments with huge ramifications.  Somes years don't count, transfers don't sit out, and student's thinking about their market value and the best market for his skills. Throw in some social justice, oppressors and oppressed, fair shares and all mixed in and everything in today's sports at all levels is a twilight zone kabuki theater version of what sports was a few short years ago.

Loyalty?  To what?  To whom?  Coaches have no loyalty to players.  Players have no loyalty to coaches or teammates.  Coaches and players have no loyalty to fans.  Loyalty to the United States?  This topic is so powerful, caustic, explosive, whatever, that I will just drop it.  Gently.  But we all know this is the real center of mass.  Now, what was the order.  Supernova and then black hole or vice versa?

Some good and some bad.  We are but a poor and humble farmer people and so our problems are plenty but we are a proud and happy people.  The rich, are like Harry the Prince of Punk, the Head Peckee of Hollywood Henpecked, and his Ball and Chain, Her Royal Highn Ass.  Coaching incest and desertion create a weird musical chairs in which team, players, schools, towns, and fans all are left dizzy and off balance.  Theirs are in the tabloids and news while ours barely rate the neighborhood gossip's hot topic list.  But, they are all about the same, just on a relative scale.

For some of you, I may have some news.

  • For basketball this is very helpful as it shows just what a bus stop for players moving up and down the sport has become.  Players come and go like ghosts.

  • Well that raises the question of whether it is even possible for a G5 team to build a "program" as such, by which I mean a complex offense and defense.  Or does G5 turn more into Tark UNLV ball.  Get the best athletes you can get your hands on, toss the ball out there and basically play pickup and may the best athletes win.

  • I believe I heard that Baylor has seven new players this year after winning it all last year. Texas Tech had eight. There?s no building anything. Well I suppose you build a reputation for being able to win with what you land sending players up the ladder. Eventually that is what moves the ?program ? up the ladder.
So my question is are we playing the kind of ball that moves players up and wins. Williams moved up but it was Terry?s move up.  Who will be moving?  Up or down?
