  • But, saying that, I just wonder how long we can has less than 10k people sitting in an empty Sun Bowl and getting worse.

Lower GA ticket sales price to $10 and get some butts in the seat.  You will make some of it back on numbers and concession and it is much better for team morale.

Last game had something like 13,000 attendance.  I think cheapest tickets are around $25.  That's $325k (I know they're not all GA.  work with me).  Now assume $5/person in concession sales.  Add $65k to $390k.

Now assume lowering ticket prices to $10 doubles attendance.  You have 26000 in attendance and took in $260k.  Now they buy $5 concessions each.  Add $130k in concessions, and you are back to $390k.

I understand it's not as simple as I laid out, but my point is that the market tells you what the price needs to be and the market has declared the price has to be lower than it is.  But you can make some of it back and increasing butts in seats has other value.  Imagine the difference to a potential recruit between a stadium with 13k in attendance and one with 26k in attendance.

  • I agree with the math but the 13k was for Homecoming and the game before that was at about 10k.  But, the problem is that the games have become exercises in futility, embarrassing, humiliating, and now they are going to turn cold to boot.  So now fans we get a horrible Saturday night and have to suffer to be miserable.  If it continues UTEP will have to give the fans a loaf of Roman Meal bread just to get them there.  My wife looked at the Homecoming crowd and said, "That's pitiful!".  It is worse than that.

I might pay for a ticket and go to a game if they fired Dimel on the chance that we might win a game, but with him, I have seen more than enough to know that I will see more of the same, and I'm too old to be miserably disgusted AND cold to watch UTEP's current brand of what they call football.  I would rather join in the self-flagellation parade and whip my own ass around town.  At least there would be a point.
