  • Well, my livestream feed off ESPN+ died about 5 minutes into it.  I guess I will have to rely on you guys telling me what happened.

  • Finally got the feed back.  Not sure that was a good thing.  Wow, this is ugly.
    CRT not at the game, suffered an allergic reaction to some food.  Obviously that affects things

  • You can watch the play by play stat feed, if you are interested.  At the half UTEP trails 26 to 36.

  • I thought we looked pretty decent the second half.  The team that we were in the second half can win some games even when the 3s aren't falling.

    i've noticed that Edwards is much much better at shooting the 3 in transition than in the half court.
    In spite of the many Tarke turnovers I feel like he's better in there than Vila.
    Games where Boum is 0-6 from 3 hurt us.
    Stroud played well the first half, wonder why he didn't play the 2nd.

    I need to start watching the games to figure out why we keep getting beat on the back door cuts.

    I still believe that having your head coach out affects your game.

    I think we beat FAU

  • Apparently Terry is in worse shape than we initially realized.  He suffered anaphylactic shock and is still in the ICU in critical but stable condition.

    I am sure that affected the players since no doubt they were aware that it was serious.  We will see how it affects them in the next game, and how the assistant handles it.  I thought the substitutions were a bit weird.

  • That is strange, because I read earlier today that he was ok and would be joining the team in Florida.  I hope he recovers quickly.  I once had a girlfriend who carried medicine with her at all times in case she was stung by a bee.  It gave her a half an hour to get to a hospital.  It was strange, because she seemed to attract bees!

    I just found this;
    January 2, 2020, 8:48 PM

    "MIAMI -- UTEP basketball coach Rodney Terry is in critical condition in a Miami hospital, school officials said Thursday.
    Terry is stable and “is expected to make a full recovery,” the school said. There is no timetable for his return to the bench."

    and this;

    "Terry has reportedly been hospitalized for 24 hours and was initially said to be recovering and nearing release according to program officials. An official has since told Parker that Terry has been listed as critical by the hospital.
    Assistant coach Kenton Paulino has taken Terry’s place in his absence.
    “Coach Terry wanted to be here, and he's doing much, much better," Paulino said, according to UTEP’s site. "[The hospital] wanted to hold him for a certain period of time and they wouldn't let him go. But he's ready to get back to work."

  • Aside from Terry, the Miners are actually declining. They still cant protect the ball with over 20 turnovers, they can't rebound, & they can't hit jump shots.
    The shooting is on the kids, but the rebounding & turnovers are on the coaching. If they cut those in half, the Miners would only have 1 loss. However, these horrible statistics have been an issue under the current coaching staff & these numbers are getting worse as the season progresses. I admit that we have picked up some fantastic talent, but the coaches have not been able to get this team to gel.
    This is a major problem.

  • Yes, this is falling apart.  This is a case where the whole is less than the sum of the parts.

    Granted this was an assitant, but the substitutions make no sense.

    Guys that are hot get sat down at critical times.  Guys that are train wrecks get put in at critical times.

    Vila should not see the floor unless Williams, Efe, and Verhoeven have all fouled out.
    Boum needs to sit until he can show that he can contribute coming off the bench.
    Tarke, and Stroud are all performing way better than Boum or Vila and not getting near the minutes.

    i am starting to ask myself whether the coaching staff wants to win, or if they do whether they want to keep it close?  When something is working we change it.
