Some of you on this board remember that almost 4 years ago my daughter signed to play college tennis. She starts her last spring season this Saturday and I am stunned at what she has accomplished. Her coach for her first 2 years was let go in the middle of her junior year, something she was very happy about. Her team "coached themselves" for the remainder of the years with my daughter taking the lead with practices and strength/conditioning. She has been selected as the all conference academic team twice so far and should be selected again this year. She and her partner were the first players to achieve a regional ranking during her sophomore year. To date this year she has a win over a top 10 regionally ranked player and a career winning percentage over 60% in singles and over 70% in doubles. The past four years have made me really appreciate how hard student athletes work. The fact that she was able to graduate in 4 years with honors while playing a sport and working just blows me away. I remember the difficult process of selecting a school and now here we are again trying to decide on a graduate school. The point of me writing this is to say that while we all can get very frustrated with players, we must understand that they are each giving their best.
