  • OK, I raised Hell about Dimel taking his sweet time and putting UTEP on the back burner while he and his kid played their bowl game.  I didn't like it then, as it says just exactly what it says-UTEP football is less important to him that the bowl game.  We can debate that at some other time, perhaps.  But, what about basketball?  Has Senter just blown off the entire season?  By the way, is Senter even around, or is he too still hanging out at his old school enjoying life?  is the idea that UTEP is so fucked up there just no hurry?  It is a raging fire so just let it burn out, then once it is burned to the ground we can start over.  So, UTEP fans have tickets to watch the fire instead of basketball, and the AD seems fine with that.  No hurry about fixing anything.  We have achieved a new record in starting the "wait until next year" chant.  We start the chant before the regular season even begins, nowadays.  Others start it at the end of the season.  That is how we begin ours.  Now, here in the land of manana waiting on working on things is the way it is.  Seems like Senter has already become an El Pasoan.  No hurry.  The coaches are getting a tryout.  Is there anyone out there that thinks Johnson should get the job?  Is there anyone that needs two more months to decide?  Is there anyone out there who thinks Senter has already shown that losing is not a problem, that there is no hurry.  So far, Senter has done what?  Hired a coach that was too busy to show up for work and allowed the basketball team to just be an oozing festering sore.  I know, its early yet, but from where I sit he has made one Hell of a start.  Doing nothing is one way to do more with less, I guess.

  • IMHO, I think just maybe Dimel wanted to finish the job he started. In other words, help lead his team to a bowl win. Here in EP, we wouldn't know anything about that. That's just a guess. The assistants are actively recruiting, and I read somewhere visits are coming shortly. We don't know that he isn't working hard for UTEP. We only know that he is barely coming to town.

I have seen Senter at basketball games, just can't remember when it was. He could be in the process of relocating during the holiday season. I wouldn't expect a new hoops coach to be named while this season is still going on. I also wouldn't doubt he has spoken to a few coaches already that may be interested. How would it look to the kids playing if they announced a new coach today and they knew they were playing for a lame duck coach? (they probably know this already anyway) Besides, no coach worth a shit would leave his team right now, nor would they announce they were leaving at the end of the season yet.

    Patience.

  • Actually Dimel didn't take his sweet time.  He had the important parts of his staff hired and they were out recruiting and giving out offers days after DImel's press conference.  We need a dual threat QB and Kai Locksley was offered right away.  The only things that can pretty much be done right now are recruiting and watching film and evaluating players on our roster.  I am sure Dimel was watching film evaluating what he has while in Kansas.  If he barely assembled his coaching staff today, I would be mad.

As for BB, name me 1 coach who was hired in January during the middle of the season?  Not even the NFL hires coaches midseason when they fire a coach.  They just strap on an interim label on an assistant coach and ride out the year.  No coach worth a darn is going to leave midway through the season and totally F*** over their head coach , they are going to wait till the end of the season.

Damn give Senter a chance to get situated.  He barely started on Dec 16 and your already expecting results.

  • It was six games into the season.  Yes, after 30 years of waiting, I am impatient and it seems to me that we are just standing around waiting for the wildfire to burn out.  I will admit, however, that I had to buy a new laptop yesterday and this morning, before coffee, I felt like firing it up.  But still, when I see a fire, I expect to see some urgency in the response.  Yeah, patience the people say.  The firemen are aware of the fire.  They are finishing up their family barbeque and will be here soon.  They already looked it over, and I'm sure they are discussing it after dinner.  Patience.  Yeah patience.  It took years to build what Kugler built!  Patience.  FUCK NO!  My patience has run thin.  Y'all have all the patience you want.  After 30 years of patience, I am in a fucking hurry!

  • In regards to BB, I'm with UTEPfan. No outside coach is ready to take a position after 6 games into a season. I'm not a fan of Johnson being the new head coach, but he & Braswell are the only ones I would trust at this point. A new coach with a new system would confuse the hell out of these kids and it would not be fare to the kids or the fans.
However, Senter better be planting seeds for next year. IMO, the UTEP job should be the most attractive in the conference (history, facilities, competitive pay, fan base, etc.)

  • A rush hire in mid-season would be a crap hire just to make Kyy happy.  Any coach we would want is not available today.

  • Since Ky is in a bitching mood, I’m going go along and throw this out there -

Nothing says UTEP more than the fact that Kugler was here for 4+ years and some people still could not spell his name correctly.

Sure, this may be a non-sequitur, but if the fans can’t take the time to learn the coach’s name, we deserve what we get.

lieb (who won’t have any coffee until the morning, but has been mixing some Moscow mules this evening....)

PS:  Just to show more evidence of my mental state - I had no idea who this “Senter” was when I read the thread title.  So, I’m no better.....

  • Best bet for mbb coach hire is March. Almost all HC hires happen then. Senter has ties to the ETSU head mbb coach, Steve Forbes. Very successful. One to keep an eye on.
