    • Really interesting. 

    Here is what Canales had to say when he was at UNT:
    “I want to create great balance and I think that’s where you can be successful,” Canales said. “Look at Stanford, they have a little bit of pro-style, a little bit of spread, they play a hard-nosed mentality on offense and I think that’s who we are.”

    Note the Stanford reference, LOL

    • Nice!  So, we are going to be the Stanford on the Rio Grande!   Print up the bumper stickers and t-shirts, UTEP!

    But, remember, Kugler always claimed that we were balanced, and after spending three quarters running and getting nowhere, the passes would come in desperation and it balanced out the numbers.  That and 90% of the passes were just another way to run the ball.

    • I don't think that's the Canales way, and it's certainly not pro-style.  I don't claim to be a Canales expert, but this makes me feel a bit better about the offensive direction.

    If we are going to be SOTRG (Stanford on the Rio Grande), do we need to get a mascot like their weird Christmas tree looking thing?

    One more Stanford comment.  20 years ago or so, not too many years after I got my BSEE from UTEP, I happened to visit Stanford while on a business trip to the Silicon Valley.  I took a campus tour (beautiful), and also wandered into the book store.  They were using some of the same textbooks, but some junior year classes were actually using the textbooks we learned from in our sophomore year.  Oh, and one other thing.  The tour guide's dorm-mate was the heir-apparent to the Gallo wine fortune.

    That's great Sisyphus, that just proves that your engineering degree is second to none. Texas education working at its best, like in the olden days.
