  • When was the last time at the end of a football season you were legitimately excited about the next year.  Not cautiously optimistic -- legitimately excited about the future and trajectory of the team?  I am currently cautiously optimistic about football due to recruiting.

Same question for basketball.  I am currently pessimistic about basketball.

Football -- last time I think was when Kugs 2nd season he went from 2-10 to 7-6 and went bowling.  We had Aaron Jones and I thought Kug was going to get it done (2014).  Before that -- Mike Price.  Before that -- Stull.

Basketball -- last time was when Barbee took us to the tourney, got hired away, and we hired Tim Floyde (2010).  I thought Tim could build on that and bring us to a new era.  I was excited the whole Barbee era because I could see what he was doing and it appeared to be working.

Which were the last coaches that were hired away by larger programs?  Football -- Stull.  (I think Price was courted by other programs).  Basketball --  Barbee.

  • I am excited to see the future. Say what you will about the football team but I really noticed how the players, at least in my eyes, like playing for CSW. The got down 24-7 and didn?t quit. I hope they celebrated the heck out of that win. They deserved that win.

  • I ate my crow last night with pico de gallo, a flour tortilla and mayo, always have to have mayo. I was fit to be tied with those intentional penalties where the Miners couldn't keep their mouths shut or start pushing players after the play. That tells me that discipline is not a major problem in the eyes of the coaching staff. Stupid penalties HAVE to stop if the Miners want to get better next year. They deserved this win though, as they played their hearts out and that's something rare in our football teams. As has been reported we had the best recruiting class in Cusa and second in the Mwc so that means a lot to the fortunes of future teams. We'll need it as the Mwc is better than Cusa in football, JMHO. So hopefully, by the time we start playing in Mwc we'll be on a par with the rest of the teams in the Mwc.

Like Sisy, I'm hopeful that discipline is instilled on the team and the players prove that they indeed are a better class of football players.

  • From the UTEPMINERS.com website:

EL PASO ? UTEP Head Coach Scotty Walden announced 27 new Miners on Wednesday's National Early Signing Day 2025.

The newest group features 26 total student-athletes signed out of high school and one junior college transfer. There are 23 new players from Texas high schools, two from Oklahoma, one from Illinois and one from Mexico. Thirteen players will play on the "Orange Swarm" defense (three cornerbacks, two defensive linemen, four linebackers, one bandit, and three safeties). The "Blue Blaze" offense features 14 players (five offensive linemen, five wide receivers, two running backs, one quarterback and one tight end).

Walden's newest class is ranked third in Group of Five programs nationally, no. 1 for Group of Five schools in Texas, no. 1 in CUSA and no. 66 overall in the country. The five offensive linemen coming to the Sun City average 6-foot-6 and over 300 pounds.

  • Yeah. Forty years of this and my hope layer is wearing thin. Fortunately I don?t have to worry about at this point in my life. The frustration of knowing that it didn?t have to be this way hurts, though.

  • Agree.  UTEP is the Charlie Brown of college football.

That's very good, it's not that often that we take one away from the cartel. Welcome to Utep, my friend.

  • Well he's a 3 star so I imagine he'd be buried pretty deep in the depth charts at Texas.  Better chance to get PT at UTEP

  • This seasons main struggles were on the offense side of the ball. Coincidence, I suppose, that our OC, Jake Brown, has ?decided? to step down to pursue other opportunities.

Yes, Walden called the plays but the OC must have duties of some kind that relate to the offense, no?
