The past 12 years UTEP has had o line coaches for head coaches and we have to patch the o line. I can only shake my head. Of all of the positions after 12 years of running the ball into brick walls and Walden had to plug holes in the line. Am I just old and cranky/crazy or does that seem weird to anyone else?
I don't think most of them have moved higher. If they did, it was because they at least gave us one good season which is OK.
No, to my eyes at least, the O linemen under Kug and Dim were S...L....O...W. Plays took forever to develop because a lineman pulling would take half a day to get to his spot. They were OK in runs up the middle, and in pass block because you don't have to run anywhere. But a really quick D lineman would tear them up every time.
They had D1 size but FCS quickness at best. I have zero doubt that given a choice between a beefy slow guy and an undersized quicker guy they chose the beef. Maybe that was the right choice for their offenses. But it doesn't seem to work in Waldens. He appears to have recruited some talent. His question now for all these freshmen is play them or let them redshirt. If they haven't played yet, I'd absolutely get them game experience in the last four games. This season is already a loss.
