I went to watch a 3A middle school football game last night. It was a pleasure to watch a game where every kid was 100% sure that football was the sport they were playing. Linemen knew their blocking assignments. DBs made open field tackles to stop the run. Yes, they were small and slow and a bit awkward. They're middle schoolers.
My wife's school had a girl on the team. She was one of the biggest and fastest kids and played RB and linebacker. She made a 87 yard TD run. The receivers were way out ahead of the play making blocks to open up the sideline. She also had great vision at LB and made a bunch of tackles. Obviously she won't be big and fast enough to play in high school once the puny little boys around hit puberty but it was fun to see. She was a beast.
Sadly such a contrast to the half-assed discombobulated efforts made by UTEP. I don't care what level your skills are at, football or basketball, as long as I see them playing as a team. I would go back to watch another MS game. I'm not watching another UTEP game this year.
