  • Senter was brought in supposedly because of his incredible gift for fundraising.  Well it turns out that fundraising at The Citadel and fundraising at The University of Texas at El Paso are not the same.

There is one and only one path to bring money into the athletic department at UTEP.  Winning football.  You want butts in seats?  Win at football.  You want donations?  Win at football.

There's an old saying that you have to spend money to make money.  UTEP leadership needs to show that they are committed to winning.  Step 1.  Fire Senter and hire someone that understands this.  Step 2.  Fire Dimel.    Step 3.  Spend the money on a proven coach to show that we actually mean it this time.  Step 4.  Give him an adequate recruiting budget.

Do those things, and we can hit the magic 7-10 wins per year and bowl game most season.  And then, guess what?  El Paso will support a winner.  But you have to spend the money first.  Everyone has been burned too many times donating money and then they go to Dollar Tree to find the cheapest coach that will take the job.  I'm not saying we have to go shopping at Neiman Marcus, but at least upgrade to shopping at Target.

  • The people of l Paso will put 45 thousand fans in the seats and turn the campus into a Happening if you give them a team that can win.  That isn't conjecture.  It is a fact.  It has been done.  So, the money to pay for a winner is there.  The powers that be know this as well as you and I.  If it is a choice of spending 2 million to make10 million or spending 1 million to make 1 million you have to ask why they would choose the latter.  Don't trust the fans to come out?  If the team wins they will.  The belief that the Miners had a chance to win brought a sell out.  Had they won the team wouldn't have needed help.  Price proved it.  So, they don't have the up-front money?  I don't believe it.

It is the stupidity that drives me nuts.  It is Dimel being just dumb as a sack of hammers and losing games that without a stupid guiding hand the team would have won.  It is Senter and Wilson knowing that the football program is the "front porch" of the university and instead of hiring a reputable contractor, the shop Craigslist for the cheap guy that doesn't even know the code much less go by it.  So, it is done wrong and takes twice as long to do it.  When it is done it needs to be torn out and done right.

  • Of course you have just described the zeitgeist of El Paso.  I haven't lived there since 1993 but that's my memory growing up and listening to my brother in law I think it's still the same.  "Good enough" ought to be the motto.

  • It used to be the "We are but poor farmers toiling to feed the children and buy shoes for their feet", bit.  That flew thirty years ago, but the growth on the Eastside, the Northeast, and the Westside has been enormous.  Those of you who may not be here in El Paso would be jaw-droppingly stunned to see the growth, and the homes aren?t cheap.  Again, the money is already there and available.  Maybe the sale of Western Playland will shake them out of their slumber.  Not holding my breath.

I would ask Wilson, if she knows the football program is the front porch, and the front porch is one of the worst in the country, why would you have some handy-made working on it for years instead of hiring the best around to get it done, especially if the money is there-if it would pay for itself!?  Why?  If the status quo is horrible, why are you satisfied with the status quo?  It seems to me to be a decision made purposefully.  In the past ten years, could you have done more to kill the program support if you were trying?  I mean the laws of random odds or something must be being violated when it comes to picking winners.  Take Price out of the list and ask yourself how many Head Coaches of football have the Miners had and how many were winners?  It is like we pick the black marble from the hat every damned time time.  Only we are allowed to look in the hat and pick the one we want AND they are still the black ones!  I mean how is it that we don't have average coaches with average wins and losses, and sometimes a pretty good one.  Not once in a lifetime, either.  Over time, with a ten to twelve game schedule, your average team should win an average of five to six games playing other average teams.  Without even talking about level of tams being average or not, our average is more in the two to four win range.  So, we would be better putting names in a hat and closing our eyes to pick head coaches than look the way we do.  So, if we are going to look, let's look at the best and pick one from that group.

  • I don't have the time to do this, but maybe someone already knows...
Of head coaches since Stull, how many have we hired that had a proven track record of winning at the D1 level as a head coach?  Probably just Price, right?

  • There needs to be a petition addressing this problem. Every Miner fan is tired of the same thing every year. They (admins) expect our money but they keep giving us the same miserable product. Admins at UTEP think that they're doing a splendid job because no one gets in their face and tells them that they're doing lousy job of administrating the sports part of college. UTSA came into football about ten years ago and they're way ahead of us and it's because they don't have stupid people in charge. Yes, ours are stupid and undeserving of running a college sports program. I thought after Nat retired that the new prez would make it a priority of bringing a good product but she's as bad as Natalicio.

  • Fire Dimel!
I?ve never heard of a sportscaster toss pencils and cups around during a live telecast expressing his disgust for a team?s offensive play calling!!!  It happened last night during UTEPs game against Rice.

  • Did Dimwit do more of his ?trickery? like:

Call a Hardison run on 4th & 10 in his own territory down 7
Call a 30+ yd pass on 3rd & 2 when Hankins is averaging 4 yards per carry?
Burn all his timeouts cause he get get a damn play called?

All of which he?s done in the games I?ve watched which is why I?m done

  • Just putting it out there, but Senter needs to call John "Chucky" Gruden.
    Anyone against that?
