Predict UTEP Football Wins, Losses, and Scores

UTEP has put a countdown clock on their site but it is still almost 90 days until the first game.  Well, I am retired and have plenty of time to spend pondering these things so I am going to make my predictions and invite others to do the same.  But, it is kind of like playing poker for matchsticks unless there's something on it more than just bragging rights.  So, there will be a prize. 

Make your picks with winner, loser, and score.  Award one point for correct pick, win or lose.  Also, using weekly OPT scoring add three points for a 1st place win, two for 2nd, and so on.  Also, add three points for a correct pick against oddsmakers picks of winners or losers.  Pick an upset and it is worth three points.  No one knows who the favorites will be at this time.  We are pretty sure about some games and all have our own ideas for who we think may or may not be the team that will win.  Some of us are swayed by desire more than others.

The least I expect from this experienced team is 2-2 ooc and 6-2 in conference for an 8-4 season. My just slightly unreasonable expectation is 12-0 with an obvious upset win at OU. OU will be playing their 1st game of the season with a new staff and lots of player turnover while UTEP will have a game under their belt. Hey, it could happen. On the other board I picked UTEP to go 9-3 and play much closer to OU than most expect.

The 11-1 season results in UTEP hosting WKU and it's high powered offense for the ccg. UTEP wins and is the 1st CUSA team to make it to the access bowl

The new 915 ticket sale campaign has me encouraged that UTEP will have good attendance once again. If the campaign brings out 35-40k fans for the opener vs UNT and the Miners get the win, we could see solid attendance all season.

I have been fighting technology from phone to laptop to get pictures up.

These first three are three one of a kind solid silver rings created by a local artisan.  I call them Friday night rings because if some fool wants to fight, you can stamp his head so that he can know where it happened.  They are massive!  The lady's ring is a lab created sapphire mounted in a sterling silver swirl setting.

I haven't completely decided or worked everything out, but it will probably be highest points winner gets to pick first and so on.  I may be adding other items as I go.











So far,

First Prize gets their pick of a ring or the $100 bill.  The El Paso rings are valued at $150, but $100 is $100 bucks. 

Second Place- If First Place winner chooses a silver El Paso ring, the other El Paso ring will no longer be available. but second place may choose a remaining ring or the 100 dollars.

Third Place gets to choose an item from what remains.

This is subject to additions, and changes before the actual games start.

Man, I just don?t have the orange koolaid.  I?ll actually pick games later but I just don?t see us doing much better than last year without cowing.

We will have last years offense with less big plays and i haven?t heard any indication that we?ll be better at kicking FGs.  I see lots of very low scoring games

I hope I?m wrong and we win a conference championship.

OK, here goes.  I'm going to pick us to beat UNT but I have a very bad feeling about that game.  Overall 7-5 and I don't feel real confident about that.  Anything less than a bowl game is a serious disappointment but hey we're UTEP

I'll play this year. I normally only do prediction threads, but this year is a bit different. This team is an all Dimel team. If he still has a Kuglar kid, it's because Dimel wanted him. I was looking at 24/7 predictions and they have my Miners at 9th.
I'll chime in on my picks later, but I have to say some of you have been in the Orange & Blue bubble bath for too long with 9-10 wins. Our defense is awesome, but the offense is questionable. I see a max of 8 wins because this team doesnt know how to close. That is really reaching. Even if Miners surprise Boise, FAU & UAB are serious teams.

In keeping with my realism -- or negativism -- I feel I should point out that we didn't beat a single FBS team with a winning record.   They had a combined 21-52 record.  The FCS school we beat had a 2-9 record.
Our best W was against a 6-7 ODU that started 1-6 and then won their last 5 games.  We played them before they figured it out, and I am confident they would have beaten us had we played them later.

IF we have a legit deep threat at WR, and IF Hardison cam complete 7-15 yard passes with any consistency at all we could be better than last year.  IF we suck slightly less on special teams.  But those are pretty big IFs.

Beating another dead horse, I'd really like to never see another wildcat ever again -- especially inside the 20-- and I'd also like to win the lottery.

None of this is to say I'm not reasonably happy with our progress.  I'm actually fairly optimistic about what Dimel has done and is doing.  I just think y'all are jumping the gun and I hope I'm wrong and we really are the class of CUSA next year.

2008 Team  will be a prize

Well, I just looked at vegasinsider and found that unt is giving 2 points and the o/u is 56.5 so it will automatically be a game where bonus points are available if it stays this way.

The Miners are 2/1 versus unt in El Paso winning an average of 37 to 22.7 while the Eagles own the Miners in Denton 5 games to one beating UTEP 20.5 to their 33.3 on average.  But the last two games were in Denton and the Miners lost the two games by a total of 5 points.  This will be the first game of the season and the Miners will be sky high in front of a home crowd that will be even higher!  UNT is going to get ambushed.  The defense will be shocking them with their energy and by the middle of the third quarter it won't be the heat or the humidity, it will be the feet.  Thousands of them above sea-level.  Add that to the heat and I always hate to get crazy on the Miners, but this could get ugly.  Much more of a rout that anyone thinks.  So, there is some early fat.
