This is a player's stats.  I'm sure this makes sense and the kid is probably a really good guy, but tell me why he is on the team?  Not trying to be mean.  Unsung heroes and all.  But even practicing against him has to affect your play.  I figure he is a straight A student.  Still.

This is another basically a career low scoring forward.  And we have some youngsters who are just getting started, but none of them have shown that they are just waiting to get on the court to start scoring big.  It is early, but I would say that if a person was just waiting for the young players to get experience to come in and be big scoring threats, holding your breath could result in a blue face at best.

Holy shit!  I just looked at the guards stats and it gets worse!  There are the guards we know that can't shoot and we have a batch of no shooters waiting in the wings!  I feel like I am in Crazy Town.  I hope like Hell that these are all engineering majors or something!

Logged 843 minutes; ranked third in C-USA in minutes per game (35.1).
Led UTEP and ranked third in C-USA in scoring (18.8 ppg).

No questions here.  He has been all that and a bag of chips.
    Next guard
in 2018, averaging 22.0 points per game, including 24.0 points per contest against eight junior college programs.
Started in 45 games in two seasons
    scoring average (12.8 ppg
Shot 42.8 percent (124-290) from the field, including 35.3 percent (36-102) from three-point range.

Idk.  Competition got tougher?  Because he can't hit water with a rock from in a boat.

And his is great at everything!
Earned a four-star rating from ESPN.com and was ranked as the no. 25 shooting guard in the nation. Averaged 14.0 points, in HS and 12 in first season of college.  In seasons here about 8 or 9.  Not exactly the shooter espn thought.

The next one is so different? that I will not even comment.  You will have to look at his bio yourself.

A's are more important than 3's maybe?

Seriously, there are a number of players that are arguably not demonstrably better than the local All Stars from El Paso high schools.   And I am sure that from those All Stars you could find four or five straight A students.  Recruiting?  Is that even done?  Or just look at who is in the porthole?  Shit, I have nothing against any of these young men, but fuck a duck, we could give the same scholarships to El Paso kids.  I 'd bet $20 that Cathedral has a kid that can shoot lights out from beyond the arc-well better than 90% of our players, anyway.  This has me really scratching my head.  Since the NCAA has decided that school, and loyalty are bullshit, is it now down to checking in at the national player exchange and making phone calls?  The good players trade up and the let's say players not as good stay, so eventually all you have is the ones that fell and got to the bottom?  Gee, that sounds great!

Let me finish on a high note.  We aren't the worst at 3 point shooting.  Out of 350 we are only 298.  But, we don't let it stop us!  We are 305 in shooting percentage

  • I'm with you.  The only quibble I have is I will tell you the Cathedral kid won't be shooting lights out when he has a D1 player closing on him.  It's just unbelievable how quick and athletic D1 players are, and it really affects shooting.

  • Sis, you have to look at the players' bio's.  I'm really bewildered.  The Cathedral kid would not shoot any worse!  Can't!  it is like we are going to a bar fight barehanded.  Our strategy is to disarm all of the knife and broken bottle fighters with our ability to dodge their stabs and make their arms so tired that we can hit them.  And yes, it works against 6-8 year olds but after that, even the nine year olds are going to cut your ass up while you get tired of getting cut.

  • I have too much time on my hands.  It is one reason why I write what I write.  Going back to the KU game and looking at the box score you find that UTEP shot the ball 60 times and Kansas shot 56 shots.  UTEP took 23 3 point shots and KU took 20 we made 3 they made 6.  But, Kansas shot 53% field goal percentage(that includes the 6 for 20 from 3, so inside the arc the percentage is even higher) and we shot  31%.  That 31% is carrying 13% from 3 point range.

Too much time, like I said.

I did a little figuring.  Let's say each team gets 60 possessions a game.  Forty-five percent times sixty times two equals fifty=four.

Then thirty-five percent times fifty plus twenty-five percent times ten times three equals forty-two point five.

Basically, this is how KU beat the shit out of us.  We, the Miners couldn't stop them from hitting layups while we missed those.  We played three guards and two forwards.  You would think that we had the advantage in the paint.  You would expect the forwards to abuse the guards.  Nope.  Well, you would expect the Miners to take advantage of the mismatch, right.  Nope, we shoot a bunch of threes.  You know how threes come off of the backboard when they are missed.  They go out far enough to make for open outlet passes to speedy guards for uncontested layups.

Kansas' guards didn't have to hit threes to score 20 points each.  They did it inside the arc.  We, have forwards for what reason.  They don't rebound.  Agnew led the Miners with 7.  Kalu had 4.  TV had 2,Hollins 2, Sibley 2 and Bonk 1.  That is the forwards versus KU's four guards.  The forwards totaled 11 points, I think. Forwards versus guards and they grabbed 11 rebounds and 11 points.  To me, that doesn't make any sense at all.  A basketball coach should be able to do something about that,or I figure it indicates that the coach is alright with it and the problem in his eyes lies somewhere else.  Damned if I know.

My first thought was, well fuck, if we aren't going to use the forwards like forwards. if they aren't playing strong, play four guards.  But we don't have them either.  It is why I wonder if I'm just nuts when I look at the roster and their bio's.  And let me be clear.  Over the years I got to know quite a few of the athletes and they are some of the finest people you could ever want to meet.

I feel like I am being too hard on the team.  But, I just can't make sense of any of it.  I love defensive basketball.  The Bear taught us well.  But, you have to score points to win.  We somehow seem to be really good at making it hard on the other team but at the expense of not being able to do anything but that.  Like we are really annoying.  Can't do any damage, just annoying as fuck.  We are like knats.

None of these guys have a history of being able to score well and do it efficiently at a D1 level.  It's not like they were shooting lights out under CRT or at their previous schools.
