  • It?s 14 7 Miners at the half. Pretty much dominating but it is Miner ball so the score is what it is.

  • I agree. The Miners are controlling, but are not pulling ahead like we want to see. That seems to be our MO. I want to see the Miners just pull ahead and not look back.
Some fun assumptions, Cowing & S. Miss punter are going Pro.

  • Holy cow!  I just looked at the stats.  We only gave up 15 rushing yards?

With no exaggeration, it was one of the best defensive performances that I have ever seen from UTEP.

Dimel has built a front seven that is very solid for this level of competition and we do not even have a Senior starter on our front seven.  In fact, we have 33 players on our roster who are either a D-linemen or LB, only 1 of those 33 players is a Senior.  The biggest key is going to be holding onto to all of these guys.

  • I was able to listen to the Teich broadcast so those of you that saw it may have some different thoughts.

Our defense is good.  By CUSA standards, dominating.  Obviously our secondary could be better, but that would make us dominating by any standard.  Take Boise out of it and our defense has been scary.    Boise doesn't count for two reasons -- they just beat BYU, and our offense turned it over 6 times.

Our offense is mediocre and inconsistent.  This is probably because our starting QB and starting RB are mediocre and inconsistent at this point of their careers.  You can see the player that Hankins will become, but he isn't there yet.  Awatt is, and should get the bulk of the carries with Hankins to give him an occasional rest.  Unless there is some plausible master strategy that makes that strategy make sense?

Dimel has clearly upgraded our talent level significantly, and maybe is a decent head coach.  I still think he's an awful OC.

Absolutely true statement! Never seen a defensive performance like this before, in my 4 decades of Miner fandom! They put on a clinic!
After witnessing that, I’m much more optimistic that they’ll win more games this year than they are supposed to. Go Miners!!!

  • And you guys thought I was crazy when I predicted an 8 win season for the Miners.  I stole Mojo's crystal ball to help me.  Eight wins is a good possibility.  Maybe even 9.  Ha! Ha!

  •  I think right now I would call La Tech, UNT, and Rice "could win".  FAU, UAB, and UTSA are probable losses to me.  There aren't any that I feel like are "should win".  So right now I feel like 8 wins is our ceiling, with 7 wins the most likely outcome.

  • Continuing the thought from above, D great, O meh, but I forgot special teams.  Special teams is a mess and hurts us every single game.  It's time to move Price to his best coaching position, which is QB coach.  We have a corp of QBs that desperately need coaching on technique and decision making.  Elevating their play would immediately elevate this team.  Price has a proven history in that area and it's needed.   Meanwhile the special teams suck.  Let someone else take that on.

  • The one thing that has stood out to me this season is the quality of tackling. These kids are getting to the ball, holding on, & bringing down.
So great to when when technique is utilized well.

  • yes!  no more arm tackles, no more throwing themselves on the ground in the general direction of the ball carrier.  Very few whiffs.  Wrap up, hang on, and swarm.

  • Garrett has been sucking on a big one. He still has the jitters about catching the punts and just let's it roll to the 5 yard line. He's a big disappointment. The Miners need Cowing fielding punts. Cowing can catch and he can run like a jackrabbit. Garrett in one word, stinks.
