  • Damn,
This guy is energy. I hope you all got a chance to watch it. This guy put a huge smile on my face. He is the right guy, for sure. I'm not going to ruin it by telling you what he said. If you haven't seen it, "get your popcorn ready." If you want to meet the guy, he'll be having breakfast at Lucy's tomorrow & he wants to meet you. Anyway, for those that have, what did you think?

  • Just watched it.  I do love his energy.  One thing I heard was that defense probably won't change much, but offensively he is not married to a particular style and will adjust what they do to take best advantage of his players strengths.  That would be nice, because we haven't seen that since Barbee.

  • Wow, that guy ought to lay off the coffee. I think if he had long nails he'd be hanging from the ceiling like a cat. He seemed nervous but I guess that would be normal for someone that's a coach and not a politician. He talked more like an auctioneer than a coach. I'm reserving my opinion of his coaching prowess until I see the product on the floor...but anyone would be better than Terry. At least this guy has had winning records but now we'll see how he produces on the recruiting trail.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and I wonder how much he'll be paid. Perhaps the same as Terry because at least he knows how to win.

    Go MINERSSSSS!

And the "Hit the Nail on the Head" award goes too...Sisy"
Terry brought kids in to play what he knew. Floyd was better at switching up (played small, pro style, etc.) But couldn't turn the corner. I'm pretty much betting Golding is stuck to the phones bringing on recruiters that have ties to big talent that will come. I also hope he's doing his best to keep Verho & Vila. Of not, we are going to be playing small next year.
Mojo- we all need to drink the Kool-aid. You don't have to drink it all, but it's the only way we are going to move forward positively. I know you are a Billy G guy. Well...we have the younger & energized version of him.

  • I was watching the news on Golding at Lucy's. I'm not sure how many people showed, but Golding really made the best out of it. Recruit & promote is what a HC should be doing. He hit the ground running with the promotion aspect & he must be exhausted.
I'm very curious who he brings in as Assistant Coaches. We all know he can recruit TX, so it would be smart to bring someone familiar with other states like CA, OK, CO, etc.

  • I hated that we lost Sjolund because of his 3 point percentage numbers but like they said on the sports news that he wasn't that good on the defensive side. Heck, that part can always be taught 3 point shooting not so much. I've always been a proponent of players that can shoot the 3 and I don't award any points to players with a high number of points. Heck, even I could be in there with the numbers if all I did was lob that ball at the hoop. Percentage is the best indicator of how well you shoot as a player. That's what made Baylor the second school in Texas to win a national championship, those guys couldn't miss the 3 point shot sort of like Butler when they beat us a few years back. It was so frustrating watching that game from the stands. Everytime UTEP got close to Butler they started lobbing those bombs into the basket. I was tearing my hair out. That's what we need at UTEP high percentage 3 point shooters that can be TAUGHT how to defense that side of the game.

Like I said I'll wait to see the product on the court. I said the same thing about Terry and I think he wasn't good in the Xs and Os but was a good recruiter. The trouble was he couldn't keep the players he needed. Tsk, and a tsk.
