  • Sjolund will be eligible.  From his highlights he is much much better than Vila offensively.  He can create his own shots as well as catch and shoot and not afraid to take it to the hole strong.  I hope he can play D, but since Vila couldn't he is definitely an upgrade even if he can't.  Also, while I kept saying that Vila was playing the European game and couldn't understand spacing and cuts in the American game, Sjolund appears to.

Of course, just looking at his highlights, don't know how often he screwed the pooch...

So I think we are looking at:
    Bienemy
    Boum
    Kennedy
    Sjolund
    Williams

    Efe
    Tydus

I am thinking this is our primary rotation.
Bienemy obviously at PG and Boum can take over when Bienemy needs a breather
Kennedy starting SG, but Sjolund can move out there if we want to move Williams out to the 4 and put Efe or Tydus in at the 5.

It's not real deep inside, but CRTs game seems to be to spread the floor and have guys that can hit the 3 from every position.  I am thinking the key here is really Sjolund being a consistent outside threat.  That will force the D to not pack it in on BW.  If he is one on one he can score 20+ on any night.

  • I could swear I thought he already was eligible when we got him. I think he red shirted all last season.
Anyway, the kid is about 6'8" and can shoot. He will rotate between SF/PF.
We also have a 6'5" 21yr old Fresh PG who is 100% euro style. I like it because of shooting & ball control. However, defense is always a concern for anyone coming from over seas.
As I've mentioned before, we have the best team in CUSA on paper. Can the coach put it together or flop by not controlling his guards like last year?

Better than Bassey and W. Kentucky?

    I think so. Let's see.
    1) Sjoland 6'8"combo forward & Kennedy 6'5" SF. Both are 4☆ players and have D1 experience.
    2) Bieniemy 6'4" PG 3.5☆ w/D1 experience & his backup is a 21yr old 6'5" Euro champ.
    3) We know what William's & Boum can do.
    4) Backups- Odigie, Verho, Agnew, White, & a few others.

Western KY has a group to match, but really no bench.

  • I'm just feeling a whole lot more cautious about my optimism given last year.

Of the projected starters, Williams and Boum have played together in a D1 game.

We have 7 players that have at least played D1 ball, and that's who I feel some level of optimism about.  We know that Tydus has limited offensive skill set unless that has developed in the offseason.  Odigie depends a whole lot on how much effort he has put into getting in shape.  As far as I know, Agnew has not received eligibility for this year, and I'm not all that confident he brings a lot.

I just don't know if any of the remaining players will translate to D1 ball, so I don't have any confidence at this point that we are more than 7 players deep.

Our defense was so hit or miss last year.  I am really concerned because we showed no ability to adapt, particularly we got killed by pick and rolls and backdoor cuts.

Right now I think we are top 5 in CUSA.

  • One of the reasons I love college ball and stopped caring about pros is that pros don't care about the fans other than for their money. We all love going back and thinking about the teams of the past and the players we loved. After a few years of this coming and going of guys just stopping by to say hi how many will be talking about the great teams and players that we had for a few months. This continues the shift from college teams to minor league ball. And as much fun miner league baseball is it is just a nice way to spend some time with the family. Not many even care about the standings. My question is is Terry's constant shuffle of players the norm at other schools or is Terry an exception?

  • Just based on how many of our guys transferred from other D1 schools I gather it is just a feature of the "minor league ball" you discuss.

The P5 schools will be just fine.  But IMO the mid-majors and below are slitting their own throats with this.  It's much harder for alumni to care, and you desperately need them to feel that connection.

I still feel that the have-nots need to just split off and form their own league that will be managed by themselves in their own best interests.  It's like Bob's Grocery store joining a lobbying group with WalMart and just hoping what's good for WalMArt is good for them. But inevitably WalMart writes legislation that gradually squeezes the Bobs out of business.  But if all 2 million mom and pop grocery stores across the country formed their own association looking out for their own intersts all of a sudden they are something to be reckoned with.

  • Players playing solely for the purpose of trying out for another team instantly not only loses me it makes me dislike and resent the player and all that provide support for it. So I am almost forced to drop bb at the college level too. Anyway I have to go tell some kids to get off of my lawn. Maybe shake my fist a little.

  • Vulikic, Hess, White, & Agnew. Not an all star bench for guards, but OK. I'd say average.
Odigie, Verho, Vila, & Onyema as back up big men. Well above average.
This coach has done an excellent job bringing talent. He's just done a horrible job making them work together.
The key words are best team "on paper." In CISA.

  • Not sure if any of y'all are basketball season ticket holders, but I got the call last week  because seats are being changed for this year only due to Covid separation. I'm not really all that happy because I sit on mid court 14 rows up & now I have to sit in a corner.
It is what it is and at least I can go to games.

Lost my Floor seats due to this bullshit.  But it is what it is... CUSA said no seats 25 feet from court, so all floor seats were purged. Then the are only using even rows numbers and spreading people out.
