The question is, what do you need to see vs LaTech to convince you that last week was not an anomaly, but a glimpse of something resembling progress?
For me, last week was the first time since Dimel has showed up that I thought maybe there is hope for UTEP under Dimel. I could imagine a future in which our defense gives our offense a chance to win, and our offense has the chops to do something about it. I could imagine what could happen with a true dual threat QB.
La Tech is a much much better opponent, but one that is in the same conference as us. It is a much better test of progress. A win would cause me to lose all sense of perspective and objectivity, but assuming we lose what would we need to see?
How many yards gained, passing and running? how many points put up? how many points given up? if one side of the ball plays well and the other doesn't, is it still progress? Is there a way to tell the difference between bad play and dumbass play calling?
I think it's good to think about these things ahead so we aren't caught up in the emotion of the moment.
