  • I basically just reallized that we have much the same problems in both sports:

Football -- no proven QB,     Basketball -- no proven PG
Uncertain that either coach knows how to utilize if he had a proven player at either spot.

Inability to adapt after opposing team makes first defensive adjustment.
    Predictable game plan
    No team identity
    platitudes without specifics

I could go on, but this is evidence to me that the biggest problem is an AD that is way out of his depth.  If he can't tell the difference between BS and actual workable plans he needs to go.

  • When you say BS, I know you mean Bachelor of Science.
Anyway, football has done nothing for 3yrs & has not shown signs of improvement. Until I see some heart, along with at least 50/50 results, I'm done suffering & won't spend another dime on this program.
Basketball has more components put together than football. 1) Terry has 21yr old PG who looks great on paper, while Dimel has an empty sheet of paper.
    2) Terry has proven D1 talent from the 2 to the 5. Dimel has some speed here & some strength there.
    3) While Terry hasn't figured out how to get his teams to work together, he has recruited well. Dimel hasn't done either.
I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but my heart has been ripped out because of my orange goggles. I still have them, but I'm not ready to put them on until the football program put's on some Chanson glasses. At least a monocle.

Basketball looks much more promising. We have a PG, only he is not D1 proven & he has mediocre back ups. Vukilic playing in Euro systems, is 6'5" 200lb, strong, & is a 21yr old Freshy. On paper it looks like he is our savior, especially since he can shoot from anywhere. I hope it is the case & he looks promising for 4yrs (if he sticks around).
Given CRT's record, he will be picking up NO jobs anywhere, so he has no choice but to do his best to succeed. If he can't succeed here, he will finish his career as an asst coach at a bigger program.

As many pointed out, his record at Fresno was pretty mediocre, and *should* have been out of consideration as a result.  However, I am willing to consider the possibility that the program was such a mess that he was the best option available.

But my money is on him having a good powerpoint and Senter thinking that equaled knowing something.  I had not realized until I looked it up just now that Senter has never been a head coach anywhere in any sport at any level.  That should be an immediate disqualifier to being a D1 AD.  He was hired because he was supposed to be good at fundraising, pure and simple.

  • So,
I call the ticket office to get better seats for Bball even if it does cost more. Well, I come to find out that is not happening this year. The whole department is calling season ticket holders to make changes to seating to accommodate social separation. They will be making calls to basketball season ticket holders soon, to change seating for the year.
I'm not pissed, because I understand. I just hope our teams can overcome & take advantage of the season.

  • I guess this was inevitable, though it seems too early to call it given that infection rates are falling across the country.  is it 25% or 50% capacity?  I you were in attendance last year, what was the typical attendance anyway?  Maybe spreading out the fans a bit will make it seem fuller.

Since I would suppose that most season ticket holders are older and at more risk I wonder what this will do to season ticket sales?  If they are any good this year maybe the scarcity of tickets will  make it more desirable?

  • It's been about 50% unless NMSU is in town. That will get 60-75%.
Football should have absolutely no problem. They would be lucky if they can hit 25%.
