  • Tyler Brock (6 foot 4) is graduating early; would have to years eligibility left.  Was a starter as a freshman and also started about half the games this year.  Good:  passes better than any UTEP QB I have seen in recent years.  Bad:  he could be the FCS version of Jamies Winston of Tampa Bay  in that he can also complete passes to the opposition with distressing frequency.

    Still, might be an upgrade.

  • Is he a running back?  Because that is what Dimel is looking for in a quarterback.  The fact that he throws interceptions would probably make him the starter.  Remember that as an All-American JC quarterback Locksley rarely threw interceptions.  He only started that under Dimel's tutelage.

  • I do think that some of Locksley's problems were his own.  I think his decision making under pressure was very suspect.  Of course he was under pressure like 95% of plays because of Dimel's incompetence.

I really do feel like as bad as our D was, they were good enough for a team with an acceptable offense to win 5-6 games.

Reasonably, the QB was maybe 10-20% of the offensive problems, and Dimel & co were the remainder.  Mahomes might have gotten us 2 more wins, but the coaches would have given away the rest.

Well, he is not a running back, but he did well when he did have to run or when we had designed plays!

  • A better question would be "Is UTEP interested in SHSU's coaching staff?"

Obviously we are not, but there is no doubt it would be an upgrade

How are his hands? We also need receivers that can catch. The ones we have only have the name but can't receive worth a heck. They're like being called a mathematician and can only add. You get my drift?

Yes, he can catch!  SHSU has some plays where two QBs come into the game and one goes in motion as a receiver.  I think he caught a TD pass and threw a TD pass in the same game as a freshman.
