I've commented on how ineffective our screens up top are. A lot of our screens are for the ballhandler who either doesn't use them or goes way too wide around them accomplishing nothing. Also our big men bail early on the screen. Really a ballhandler screen is great for a player like Jackson who only needs a glimmer of light to nail a shot. Our guys pretty much need to be WIDE open to hit a shot.
I feel like we would be a lot better off setting screens for Boum and Edwards off the ball. We would stand a good chance of breaking them wide open and it helps prevent non-ballhandlers from going stagnant. Also, it should create open looks and mismatches for Williams all over the place.
Next time Terry calls me up to ask me how to improve the teams performance I will tell him:
1. Push the ball upcourt when you can
2. When it's not there, run a halfcourt featuring off ball screens for the shooting guards and always watching for the pass to Williams in space which this should create.
3. If those haven't arrived by 10s left on shot clock, guard drives and shoots, dishes, or kicks out.
4. Three players crash boards on every shot.
Waiting for that call...
