Hmmm...the long run by Locksley was impressive. He threw no interceptions and had plenty of opportunities. His accuracy measured by pass completion percentage is certainly affected by the kinds of passes he is sometimes asked to make. He seems to be a good running back that can pass some. I thought the offensive line played pretty well against a S. Miss team that traditionally imposes its will with sheer physicality and held their own against the pass rush while powering off the ball most of the time on the run. Unfortunately, it was kind of inconsistent and not there always when needed. That was the first half. Locksley seemed to be the spark, too.
The second half was Brandon Jones' half and the offense seemed to be not as crisp of in sync. However, they were still plugging along. They weren't being eaten alive! They appeared to be playing a tough foe.
The defense continues for me to be a bright spot. They never fold up and pack it in, even when put in the hole time after time. They hang tough. Are they the Border Wall of El Paso? Hardly. But are they the Operation Hold the Line of El Paso? Yes. They play really hard, with a lot of pride in each other and their team. They went toe to toe with a big strong SM offense and were pretty tough. They were giving their offense a puncher's chance.
Defense = B Offense C- Special Teams B+ Overall C The Defense is doable, the offense is hit or miss-inconsistent, and special teams are good. The quarterback position, always the key to nearly any offense is still the problem. Perhaps this game showed some of what Dimel is looking for in Kai and I hope it falls into place.
