Politics has gotten personal because it has dived so deeply into our personal lives. If we were just disagreeing over policy, no one would care. But when politics injects itself into your life so deeply that it bumps up against your morality, your health, your finances, your friends, family, kids, it becomes intensely personal. Then politicians realize they can exploit that to turn brother against brother and do it gleefully because it keeps them in power.
We have to be mature enough as individuals to realize that even though the other guy at the bar or across the table from you or in the office next door is completely wrong and an absolute moron in politics, he isn't evil, just wrong. The only evil guys are the ones in power exploiting the differences for their own gain. The ones they dupe into declaring virtual war against their opponents are just dupes. And I find it hard to hate stupid people. They are frustrating, but not to be hated.
Just my two cents.
