The recipe for an underdog to win in the NCAA tourney could not be more crystal clear. Load up on 3 point shooters and ride your hot hands during games. Have a point that can take care of the ball, and one hoss to rebound and distribute from the paint.
Of possibly returning players, Horton and Jones were the only two with an acceptable 3 point percentage. And we had no acceptable point guard. A decent point guard might have won us a few more games including possibly the tourney championship game.
IDK if any of this matters to Golding, but it ought to. If Oakland can find 3 point shooters so can we. I hate to say it but The Bear is gone, and the way we won games under him is gone. We're no longer a premier mid major, and we can't get Tim Hardaways any more. I don't like it, but ignoring reality is just stupidity or insanity.
