  • And maybe Senter.

    This is from a preseason interview;

?We?ve changed how UTEP football is looked upon. When we got here, it was an 0-12 program that was really struggling and now it?s a program that in the football world is very well-respected,? Dimel said. ?They understand what kind of program and talent we?ve been able to recruit. For me, I?m very excited about where the program stands now. Now, it?s about going out and doing those things I talked about each and every Saturday to help us get wins.?

He is insane or not in touch with reality.

I did a little figuring and a win under Dimel costs about $300,000.

Nick Saban wins about 11 games a year  and is paid 11 million dollars a year.  Ergo, he is paid about a million a win.

    "to $800,000
    Rich Rodriguez's Contract & Salary
Rodriguez signed a contract extension this offseason which raised his base salary from $500,000 to $800,000 and will end after the 2028 season, according to The Anniston Star."
They have already won six games and they are paying less than $100,000/ win.

    "$4 million per year
According to multiple reports, Chadwell's salary as Liberty's head coach will average out at $4 million per year. The former Coastal Carolina head coach signed a seven-year deal to take over from Hugh Freeze following the latter's departure to Auburn."
They have played 7 games and won them all so far.  Let's say they won six half way and half salary would be 2 million.  $333,333/win

  • I think my biggest heartburn with Dimel is the loss of winnable games.  Not just on paper, but winnable in the actual game.  There's always going to be weird games where everything goes right for the other team -- that's how we beat BYU all those years ago.  No way we were the better team or coaches.  Everything just aligned.  That happens and I can live with that.

But when you get in a game and the other team is not playing well and your guys are playing reasonably well and the coaching staff can't figure out how to win -- that's what really fries my flounder.

I didn't watch -- the only games I've watched is when I was bored in a hotel room -- but we've scored more than 14 points in only four out of ten games.  We've had 5 games where we only scored one touchdown.   HALF our damn games we can't score more than one touchdown.  We're ranked #122 in scoring offense.  And Dimel wants to strut around like he's some kind of offensive genius.

  • Time of possession. At the end of the first half we were winning it by about 25 minutes to 5.

Any normal coach from any of the local high schools would win more games with the same kids.

I think what may be the straw is the fact that it was homecoming and the stands used to have more fans in them for a Price Spring Game. You could have literally counted them.
Remember not too long ago when we always had the best attendance.

  • The TV commentators made mention of the fact that the UTEP HC was a big believer in time of possession - and that was why the Miners had a 3 - 0 lead at halftime. (Eh?)

Oh - since I do not hear well, I need to use closed captioning.  There were times during the game when our head coach?s name appeared on the captioning as Dibble and Dribble.   ;)

  • Articles today in the EP Times, krod and ktsm all sounding like Dimel will likely be out at seasons end. If the Miners miraculously win the last 2, including a win vs #25 Liberty, would UTEP keep him for the last year of his contract? I hope not. If Dimel stays for 1 more season who would buy a season ticket?

  • I'm not real concerned about the possibility fo that happening.  The game againt SHSU I watched part of from a hotel room then shut it off.  But what I saw -- even though we came back and won -- most of the team has quit.

Obviously not McConnell, Akhari, KNight, or Burgess
