Might not affect your ratings but news today is that Tyrin Smith, our best wr last season, is back in EP and will be on the team. Also rb Dumas, El Pasoan, has transferred from Washington Huskies to UTEP and will be with the Miners this year.

Wow, that's both good news. I just wonder why Tyrin came back? Were there no offers from other schools or what? Also, is Dumas a good rb? I don't remember ever hearing his name in the local sports news. What high school is he from? What classification is he?

Tyrin was picked out of the portal by Texas A&M and he enrolled there for the spring semester. Why he came back to UTEP I don't know but I'm happy he did.

Dumas made all state his senior year at Americas HS. You have to be special to make all state from El Paso. He played as a freshman at UNM and led the team in rushing. He entered the portal and Washington picked him up and redshirted him this past season. Since he didn't play I think he can play right away for UTEP. I think so anyway.

With the RBs Dimel has, he ought to be able to put together sustained drives.  Pound pound pound, air it out to Tyrin Smith to keep the D from just stacking the box like under Kug.  By 4Q the opposing D ought to be totally worn down and you dominate on the ground.

However, this requires a few things -- Dimel has to be nursing a lead to make this work so you have to score early.  The runs have to work, and Hardison has to take care of the ball.

And the D has to be able to shut down the opposition.  Will our corners be any better?  Do we have a replacement for Taylor?  We still have Praise.   Not forgetting that the crap call on Praise on that blocked kick cost us a bowl game.

I could be underestimating the Miners. They could be Sleep over pillow fighters or even MPFs. I was going by espn spf rankings, I think.  Like I think against Jville St. I think they may play over their heads to get a scalp. And we may be in first game, on the road and in an hostile, make that insane environment all combined could elevate us or fold us up like an accordion.
