Is There Hope?

Haven't been on the site for a while.  UTEP administration has a way of deflating my fandom.  So, my question is?  Is there hope for a Miner resurgence in the near future?  I just don't see it at the moment.  Hell, did UTEP FB even have a spring game? I haven't heard a word about it.  Our tried and true bread and butter, UTEP BB, has been uninspiring, to say the least.   Team that we were in a conference with less than 10 yrs ago and now moving into Power 5 conferences and we get pushed further and further down the shit pole of mediocrity.  Where are our leaders?  What the hell happened to  The Rabbit?  Gaaaahhhhhh!!!

I waited to see if anyone else would respond because I've been ranting about this lately.
Basically I don't see a future.  The thing that really fries my flounder is that I think the administration has given up.  They want to field teams, and they don't want to be 2 win teams, but they're just fine with 4 win football teams that make a bowl game every once in a while by the incredible achievement of 6 wins.  No real interest in being a 8-10 win team.  They'd like to do better at basketball, but they're basically OK with being in the top half of the conference.  That's my take, and I'm about done.   If the admin doesn't care why should I.

Ha, ha, I get you but every year it's the same waiting for the first football game and later after the football season has gone to pot here we got again waiting for the first BB game and then in March we say good bye but not really. We're like spurned lovers waiting for the gal to come back to us even if she cheated on us (doesn't include me in that) but you get my drift. It's pathetic, and we're pathetic lovers.

UTEP sports in general has dropped significantly with Senter at the helm. He did a great job in finding $$ in the beginning & it looked very promising. What have we learned so far?
1) Dimel has had sparks of promise, but never has taken us to a bowl.
2) Terry recruited very well, but got out coached on multiple occasions.
3) Golding can coach, but his recruiting has been under par.
4) All the other sports, besides track, have all had coaching overhauls with no real results to show.
My heart will always belong to UTEP, but my sanity pushes me to cheer on the small schools. CUSA had the best basketball season  with wins at CBI, top 2 in NIT, & a Final 4 showing with FAU.
What does all this mean? It means we need a new President & AD. The world is changing & these folks have proven they cannot keep up with change. A purge would be healthy to re-new the fan base.

I devised a rating system for rating University Athletics.  Football is rated simply Into It=2 points, Trying Hard=1 point, and Going Through the Motions=0.  The football ranking is weighted 1.25/1.  Basketball is rated the same way, but weighted 0.75/1.  Keep in mind that this is a rating of the University Athletics-more specifically, a reflection of the attitude, record, likely future success, and relationships with alumni and fans. 

For example;
UT
FB rank 2 x 1.25=2.5 +  BB 2 x 0.75=1.5 total score is 4
Kansas  FB 1 x1.25=1.25 = BB 2 x 0.75= 1.5 total score is 2.75

Duke FB o x 1.25=0 BB 2 x 0.75= 1.5 total score is 1.5

So, I tried to score and rank the new C-USA.  Some of them I couldn't even guess.

MTU 2.5+0.75=3.25
WKU 2.5+0.75=3.25
NMSU             =0.75
LA T                =2
UTEP FB 0+0.75= 0.75(maybe)
FIU                   =0

The rest I don't really know.  Liberty is strong in football but I don't know about basketball.  Others movingup, I don't know yet.

Having rethought the basics of the system, I believe I can rate our Conference USA even with teams stepping up.  After all, the system is based on effort, and attitude of the schools.

The teams moving up I give a 2 in football.  Once they get here I will have to see just how serious they are.  We know that Sam will be giving it all they can give in football.  My 0 rating for UTEP reflects my overall opinion that UTEP provides the sports but isn't really trying to win.  The commitment to winning isn't there.  Itis like they have to commit to playing-not winning.

Btw, it occurs to me that this rating system is probably accurate enough to use to predict outcomes of games.  It may not be precise, but it provides a quick idea of the outcome.  Notice NMSU has a 1 and UTEP has a 0 for football.  I stand by that.  They are trying.  We aren't.  We may be able to beat them but I believe that they are trying harder.  FIU and UTEP both have zeroes fo football.  If they play one will win, but a coin flip would do the trick.  The winner and loser doesn't really matter, does it?
