  • Two thoughts:

I love UTEP, but SHSU's coach K C Keeler would be an idiot to give up his job to come to UTEP.  Phil Longo, the OC at Ole Miss (and formerly of SHSU) would be an interesting hire, but UTEP doesn't have near the kind of players he needs for his system.

I understand your point but it really depends on Keeler's perspective and it could be that at age 58, he realizes that if he ever wants to be an FBS coach, UTEP would be a good opportunity for him. Yes, it is a damn tough job to win at UTEP but if he were to take a 5 year deal at roughly twice the pay he receives at SHSU, then it could be a great chance to gamble on a move to UTEP. If he is successful, great, he will have proven himself at the FBS level and even have a shot (probably his last shot) at moving on to a bigger program. If he fails, he will have made good money  to enhance his retirement years and given it his best shot at success at a higher level. I really don't see the down side to a move like that for a man his age.

  • The article did not mention Sonny Dykes, former La Tech head coach, Cal head man and now TCU offensive consultant. Knows Texas and California recruiting and believes in a high octane offense. He would be a good choice.
