  • So my wife & I were in Austin having dinner at UT for a Board of Regants event. We were sitting at a table of 10 with a few other Presidents & Diana reaches into her little purse, pulls a little Pick Axe pin and puts it on my jacket. We talked the whole night.
What a great lady. What she has done for this school and city is simply amazing. 😥

  • I had a number of occasions to be able to visit with her over the years. Pure class and just as down home nice as could be. She did more for El Paso than anyone else you can name.

  • You two are absolutely correct.  She did more for UTEP and El Paso than anyone.  Maybe than any 5 people together

  • She was a nice lady and she will be missed. I just wish that when she was the boss that she put more emphasis on Miners sports. She was mostly a no-show for athletics.

Every time I saw her she reminded me so much of grandma in Tweety Bird cartoons.

  • I got word that Natalicio was declining in the past month. Her brother came visited a lot, which means this was not something sudden. I'll post how all the memorial stuff goes.

  • When I was an undergraduate, I needed to find an elective class.  I signed up for Dr. Nalalicio?s Linguistics class.  It was a ?weird? class in that is was self-paced.  She had the curriculum laid out and you completed it as quickly (or slowly) as you wanted.  The great thing was she was always available to answer questions.  I really enjoyed her class.  I also finished it with a about a month to spare - which was useful because I was also taking abstract algebra at the time and the extra time once I completed her course helped me a great deal.  I thought she was a wonderful professor.

  • About 20 or so years ago my I took my family to Houston to see the Miners play against Rice. We crossed paths with Dr. Natalicio in our hotel lobby and I introduced my then 5-yr old daughter to Diana and told my daughter that she was the President at UTEP.  Dr. Natalicio could see the puzzled look in my daughter's face as I'm sure the only presidents that my daughter knew of at the time were U.S. presidents. That's when Dr. Natalicio kneeled down to my daughter's height, shook my daughter's hand and told her, "I'm the principal at UTEP". Instantly my daughter understood. I've forgetten a lot of things since that encounter but I'll never forget that.
