  • Here are some random geography facts, because it's summer and well why not?

    -  UTEP is farther west than 3 Mountain West Schools(Wyoming, CSU, and Air Force) and essentially tied with a 4th(UNM).

    -  El Paso is farther west than both Denver and the State Capital of Wyoming(Cheyenne).

    -  El Paso is closer to Los Angeles than Houston.

    -  Reno, Nevada is farther west than Los Angeles.

    -  If you are standing in Beaumont, Texas then El Paso, Texas(827 miles) is about twice as far away as Pensacola, Florida(441 miles).

    -  Calgary and Edmonton Canada are both farther west than Phoenix.

    -  Detroit is a border town(I never knew that until I started looking tonight).

    -  Detroit is the only USA city to ever reach a population above a million and then fall back below a million.

    -  Based on population, El Paso(683,000) is larger than the following cities that have Professional Sports Teams:  Boston, Detroit, Nashville, Portland, Oklahoma City, Las Vegas, Louisville, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Kansas Coty, Atlanta, Miami, Omaha, Oakland, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Cleveland, Tampa, St. Luis, Pittsburgh, Memphis, Cincinnati.

    -  Based on population, El Paso is bigger than more than half of the 50 state capitals.

    -  The length of Cuba is roughly the same length as most of the east coast of the United States(from Washington D.C. to Florida).

    -  The population of Las Cruces, NM(home of NMSU) is bigger than South Bend, Indiana(home of Notre Dame).

    -  The population of Odessa, Texas is larger than Green Bay, Wisconsin(NFL), Lansing, Michigan(Michigan State), College Station, Texas(Texas, A&M), and Provo, Utah(BYU).

    -  Alpine, Texas with a poulation of 5,905 once hosted a baseball game between the Chicago White Sox against Satchel Page's St. Louis Browns.

    -  Iceland is mostly green and Greenland is mostly ice(80%of Greenland is covered in ice).

    -  Canada has more lakes than the rest of the world combined.

    -  More than half the coastline of the entire United States is located in Alaska.

    -  Arica, Chile, which is located in the Atacama Desert once went 173 months(1903 - 1918) without receiving a drop of rain.

  • Driving, It takes 10hrs to reach the beach in San Diego, but takes 12hrs to reach the closest beach in Texas and neither of those are the closest beach to El Paso. Puerto PeƱasco, MX is closest at 8hrs.
    In fact, Mexico offered the Northern part to the US for 1mil, but the US called B.S. on that and TOOK Southern parts of Cali, AZ, NM, & TX. If the US wasnt cheap, AZ would have had a sea port.
