  • Credit to someone on the other site for finding this.  It's the budget report from FY2019 that ended in August.
Pg 13 is most interesting to me, and I think explains the addition of a 2nd money game at UT.

I don't want to post too many of my own thoughts until others have a chance to review, but I would suggest this -- look at lines 1, 3, 4, 8, 22, and 28.   I also find the column "Other Sports" both interesting and confusing.

  • For budget year ending Aug 31, 2019,

Football had $645k in ticket sales, men's basketball had $918k
Football had $610k in contributions, men's basketball had $995k

Without institutional support, basketball was about break-even.  Football would have lost about $5M

Football coaching salaries at $2.5M, basketball at $1.3M

The ticket sales thing is mind-blowing to me.  If you averaged 15k fans for 6 games (as we claim) and averaged $10 per ticket, you should get $900k in revenues.

Both football and basketball were very bad last year, but you can tell where fan and donor support is.

  • Both 13 and 13a show that we received over $800,000 from our conference distribution due to the other teams in our conference making bowl games and also, I would assume NCAA Tournament game distributions.  I would believe that due to our conference affiliation, that we are also receiving CUSA revenue in our media rights line as well.  I believe that accounts for about $400,000 of the $600,000 total listed in line 11.

There are certainly better conferences out there, but these two items total about $1.2 million per year that we are currently getting from being in CUSA.  That is the difference between us being profitable vs. not being profitable.  I also don?t believe that we would come close to getting this total pay-out if we were to drop to the WAC, Independent, or FCS.

  • What if football was good enough to average 30,000 fans at $15/ticket.  We would get $2.7M in revenue off ticket sales.  Plus the probable bowl game revenues.
