    • Jim Senter has been cleaning house as of late.
     A few weeks ago he fired Coach Cross, the soccer coach. He has had a pretty good record, but Senter let him go none the less. Then yesterday Senter cans the volleyball coach. If I were the coach for softball, tennis, golf, etc, I'd be brushing up my resume. Track might be the one he leaves alone. We have a winning record there and a great pipeline to a few African Countries.
    I like what I'm seeing with Senter, so far. Now, he has to worry about who is coming in as the new President. A lot of times, a new president has a few that follow and that might also mean an AD. Who knows. The point I'm making is this guy has got to stay on his toes and be as impressive as possible to attract the new president or to look good if he needs to find another job. The same goes for the football and basketball programs.

    • I used to be a teacher and moved to the central office for a time.  Most of the moves were usually known to the right people.  Is it possible that the word, or maybe not even the word, but the strong suggestion is toward a different view of the role of athletics at UTEP and that being an embarrassment to El Paso now with all of the growth is now also an embarrassment for Texas.  Or is he just on a mission to polish his credentials before moving up to oh let's say a UTSA, Sam or some other place that cares.

    • I think we all hope it is because we are tired of being the armpit of Texas. What ever the reason, I want this school to be relevant.

    • Well, the volleyball team needed a new coach and certainly the softball team. I was surprised with the firing of Cross as he's fielded pretty good teams before. I don't know if his record now is because of regrouping, i.e. good players leaving. I'm just hoping we don't get Natalicio 2.0. She was all for getting UTEP to that special status and with all her work we're only High Research or whatever they call it. We need a president that is as interested in Sports as Academics. Each one suffers if the other isn't better, IMHO.
