  • The 0-7 Miners football team, which has been getting better with every week according to all of the experts will be fighting for one of the 9 C-USA Bowl tie-ins that would almost surely be awarded to the Miners were they to finish the season winning their final 5 games.  Injuries forced Coach Dimel to reveal the existence of a third quarterback after Locksley and Metz were rendered unable to play.  In a game that left some wondering if Dimel had any more quarterbacks to play, sure enough, he did.  Turns out the well hidden quarterback was capable of throwing, and this is important, completing them too.  This was quite a shock to everyone it seems as they seemed to be of the opinion that he was only able to run.  In the 7 losses he had yet to see any action.  The coaches had been having the two quarterbacks, Lockley and Metz, taking turns being knocked out and  unable to play.  But, last week, their luck ran out and both were knocked out, forcing to coaches to play their ace -in-the-hole quarterback that they had been saving for when a quarterback was really needed.  His first play was a pass, completed for a touchdown.  Imagine the shock on the UTEP sidelines, as the coaches all tried to pry their chins off of the plastic grass, and fellow football players shouting with the kind of joy that only hope can produce.  That inspired play that held for the rest of the game and showing that a team with a quarterback that could both run and complete thrown passes down field could actually compete against the Bulldogs of LA Tech.

The question will be will the shock have worn off and will the coaches revert to the football that led them to their 0 and 7 start, or will they be forced to play this other way where the quarterback can run and throw complete passes.  The old unwritten rule is that you don't lose your starting job to injuries.  Once your are healed, you get your job back.  Except it is broken all of the time.  Tom Brady never sent any sympathy cards to Drew Bledsoe.  What Coach Dimel does today will be the most telling thing about him since game one, and may tell me just about all I will ever need.  Oddly enough, there is a chance that the other 2018 season will begin tonight.

  • Thank you.  Some humor, but the last part I was dead serious about.  How will the coaches respond to last week's game and what it will tell us.
