I was thinking about this and UTEP has probably had more “big” recruiting wins in 2018 than any other year in recent memory....and there is still nearly half of the year to go. These are some of the big schools that UTEP has beaten for recruits in 2018:
- Winston Dimel - had an offer from and/or took visits to 2 SEC schools and 1 Big Ten school. UTEP beat out Texas A&M, Wisconsin, and Missouri.
- Bryson Williams - had an offer from and took visits to two Pac 12 schools. UTEP beat Arizona and Oregon.
- Nigel Hawkins - Had an offer from Texas A&M.
- Deon Hankins(assuming his commitment holds) - Had offers from and/or took unofficial visits to 1 Pac 12 School, 1 SEC school, and 2 Big 12 schools. UTEP beat Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Utah.
Even the women’s basketball team signed a McDonalds All American in 2018.
Then there is also Ezeagu, who apparently had an offer from an SEC school(South Carolina) at some point, although it looks like that may have cooled off at the end. It’s been a very good recruiting year for UTEP thus far, I think that it ultimately all started with Senter and branched out from from the coaches he brought in and the culture that he is builidng.
