  • to have won the National Championship in basketball has quietly had Texas Tech creep on into the picture.  Today, they will try to get into the Final Four.  Meanwhile, the team that won the championship in 63, Loyola of Chicago who did it starting 4 black players has already returned to the Final Four.  A couple of thoughts about this.  First, the network is trying to say that the Loyola team in 63 was the real breaker of the color barrier three years before Texas Western.  Nonsense!  Starting four in Chicago and all in Texas, eliminating the one white player to "control" and supply the "brains" for the team was thrown out, and it was done in the South-during the heat of the Civil Rights movement.  To take the whole thing a little further, Texas Tech would have to beat the Jayhawks, a term given to groups of militants who lead the anti-slavery movement that led to the Civil War, And Loyola of Chicago would have to beat another Kansas team in order for the Texans to play the Loyola of Chicago team for all of the marbles AND to be the second team in Texas to win the National Championship.  The Loyola team is full of white players. Some twists.
