  • This morning the news said that Utep will not have a tennis program anymore. Maybe that will free some money for the important sports that generate revenue. Who knows?

The days of paying players is with us and football along with men's basketball are likely the only sports that need an income boost for that. I imagine that's why this happened. Don't like it but that's where we are now.

  • I don't care about tennis, but this can't be a good sign of fiscal health.

Certainly a sign that UTEP is not dripping in money. Unfortunately a number of sports have been dropped around the country as schools deal with the reality of having to find a way to pay football and basketball players.

  • NIL is not controlled by the school and they aren?t allowed to fund it.
    In theory

Well, our football coach is giving $70k of his own money to UTEP?s nil or pay for play fund. Schools are going to be on the hook to share athletic revenue with athletes. It?s the wild, wild west right now.

  • I guess since they are reallocating the funds from the tennis program, that means that football and basketball will be getting an extra $5.75 each?

  • The House vs ncaa class action lawsuit is going to force colleges to give players back pay spread over the next 10 years plus offer current athletes money for their services. Not totally decided on how much the is going to cost UTEP and similar schools but it?s going to hurt. Crazy times.

Well this didn't age well.  Colleges are now allowed to directly pay players -- new NCAA rule.
The rich get richer.  I hate what college athletics has become.

  • So now colleges like Utep would be considered Class A football, the Cartel schools AA and the UFL AAA? That's what it seems anyway now that players have to be paid. Is every college player going to have to be paid? That's a lot of dough. There goes college athletics except in the Cartel leagues.

I think this is done purposeful so that non-Cartel school just give up entirely.
