  • I thought I'd look up this little team and they look to be ranked 5th in there conference. Please read a small write up on them below. This is a small team with the tallest a Jr at 6'9" who is not mentioned below. The rest of the team are all under 6'5". That means this team will be unloading jumpers from the 3. This will be a good test on our guards defense.

On Wednesday, the American Southwest Conference released its 2017-18 men's basketball preseason poll and players to watch list. The Louisiana College Wildcats were picked to finish fifth in the ASC East Division, but did garner one first-place vote. Among the list of players to watch, are Wildcats' guard Tim Stokes and forwards Travis Schultz and D'Aaron Davis, all three entering their junior seasons for LC.

Stokes 5'11" was a true point guard for the Wildcats during the 2017-18 season, leading the team in assists at 4.7 per game, while contributing 6.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game and providing a suffocating presence on the defensive end. He flirted with a triple-double down the stretch of the season and consistently provided a clam presence on the floor starting in all but one game during the season while playing an average of 29.6 minutes per game, the most on the team.

Travis Schultz 6'5" provided many quality minutes for the Wildcats last season, making eight starts and appearing in 19 total games. One of the best pure shooters on the team, Schultz will see an een more expanded role for the Wildcats this season with the ability to open up space under the basket with his shooting abilities. The forward averaged 6.3 points and 4.7 assists per game last year while shooting .353 from three-point land and .852 from the free throw line.

D'Aaron Davis 6'4" saw action in 21 games for LC last season, the majority of them coming off the bench, making only six starts and averaging 10.2 minutes per game. With the Wildcats losing some presence under the basket from Raheem Regis, Steve Evans, and Brandon Watkins due to graduation, Davis could take over the role the LC will need on the offensive and defensive glass. In his limited playing time he averaged 2.6 rebounds per game while making 10-of-25 shots on the season.

The Wildcats begin the season with two exhibition games on November 10 at the University of Texas-El Paso and November 14 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. They open the season with a neutral site, non-conference game against Sul Ross State University and play their first home game at H.O. West Fieldhouse on November 27 against Centenary College. ASC play begins three days later as the Wildcats host McMurry in their first game at their home away from home Rapides Coliseum.
