  • Good points.  I don't think we'll know what this year portends until the end of next year.  If we win 6 games and see that we are convincingly beating the lower tier teams that's one trajectory.  If we struggle against FCS and lower tier CUSA teams that's a different one.

  • Lieb, I understand what you're saying but what I am trying to establish is that the Miners overdo their enthusiasm and get penalized for it. That's not good when you give the other team TWO BIG CHANCES of getting a first down after stopping them twice. The Miners need to act like they've done it before and get back in the line for the next play instead of acting like fools after stopping a pass or a run.

What I'm trying to say in two small words are SETTLE DOWN! Don't give the other team more chances of beating you. Do your job and stop acting like fools.

    PS, yes I meant 4 and 7.

  • ?If we win 6 games and see that we are convincingly beating the lower tier teams that's one trajectory.  If we struggle against FCS and lower tier CUSA teams that's a different one.?

I?m smiling when I say this to a dear friend, but maybe one of the mathematicians can figure the odds of these two things happening based on the past forty years.

We just finished a year were we struggled to beat the worst teams in the country, including the ones that were just moving up to try at this level.

I truly hope that we win six or 12.  I don?t want to add to my Debbie downer attitude but rankings of recruiting to me is meaningless until I see how accurate it is. The transfer portal hasn?t even kicked in.
And finally, can anyone tell me who will be in the leftovers and additions mwc and if that will be any better than the group we already can?t beat in cusa?

Every team without State in their name plus SJSU

    UNLV
    Nevada
    Air Force
    Wyoming
    UNM
    SJSU

    New:
    UTEP
    Hawaii
    Grand Canyon (not football)

I think there is something missing here, but anyway, Liberty would beat any team above. WKU and MTU would hang with or beat any three on the list. The strength of cusa is horrible. But the strength of a reconstituted mwc may actually be worse. Having said that, we rarely have to concern ourselves with such things because we are usually a big part of the anchoring of a conference strength.

  • I guess we'll never know who would be better if they don't play each other but I think the Mwc is still a slight edge better than Cusa...but not by much. If memory serves me right Unlv is doing pretty well right now.

  • Agreed that MWC isn't much better than CUSA, but does appear to be more stable currently.

Going back to the topic of football recruiting, according to Rivals, most of Mike Price's classes ranked in the 80-90 range for recruiting.  2012 appears to be our best recruiting year ever at #51.  Rivals only lists top 100 classes, so basically the entire Dimel and Kug years are unrated.

Class of '24 was #86 and so far class of '25 sits at #72.  If the recruiting keeps up, Walden will win games -- even if that's in spite of himself.

UNLV is currently rated #19 and has the top recruiting class in returning MWC teams

  • I think the Pac2 did a huge mistake by taking Utah St over Unlv. Oh well, at least they'll be in Mwc when we get in...if they don't leave before. It was a huge, huge mistake, what a bunch of dummies.

They did try for UNLV first but apparently didn?t offer enough financial help. UNLV athletics has a large debt and the MWC promised them and AFA a sizable percentage of the exit fees coming from the departing schools. Supposedly all MWC schools are signed up through 2032. We?ll see if that holds up. MWC is in talks with NDSU for football only.

I keep checking their board to see if NIU and Toledo have changed their minds into coming to the Mwc. No news on either of those three. I think ND and NDSU would be good additions. I don't know how much the football players would enjoy playing in a tundra weather like in Nfl games in GB, Baltimore, etc.

I wonder how long we will have to wait for their answer?
