  • I'm gonna make some money on the Miners beating the spread (JK). I feel it in my bones that the Miners will be a surprise team this year. We will beat the spread...book it.

  • That was a pretty good breakdown.  I think our biggest worry is a brand new O-line. I do agree that I?d be surprised if we don?t beat that enormous spread. Regardless of the differences in the two teams, Coach Walden doesn?t strike me as the type who would sit back and let his team get beat like that, without at least lighting a fire under his players.
    Let's go Brandon!

  • I do hope the Miners can play well and beat the spread but I have to pick on the AD for putting two strong power programs on the schedule. Playing one money game per year is expected at most G5 schools but two is/are overkill and not only hurts the teams chances for a bowl game but could be a bit demoralizing too.

  • Could it be a reflection on how poor attendance has been recently. I saw games with less attendance than at the Spring Games I used to go to. I think they were either getting season ticket holders not showing up or just bsing. I remember thinking that I could count the fans in individual sections and get a pretty good idea of how many people were there.

Also, Kugler and Dimel tried to keep their defense off of the field. Our new coach is into opening up the offense using the pass. Against overpowering defenses Kugler and Dimel would try to keep it respectable. Giving those overpowering offenses extra chances makes for blowouts-unless you can beat the overpowering defenses and score.

Our new coach should have a chance this season to do fairly well against conference teams. The conference adds some more teams that are probably not going to help the conference overall power rankings.

Having said all of that, the portal has made it very hard to get a feel for any of it. Now throw in the money aspect!

  • One thing that happens with the pass is that if you have enough good ones in your team you can tire the DL much better than trying to run through a wall. It also keeps the defense trying to guess what you're gonna do. If we can get another Price type of offense then it'll be exciting to watch...again.

BUT, if Coach doesn't get enough good defensive players to help relieve the tired ones it will be like what Price had. That's what beat us in Houston against Colorado, we had them on the ropes but our defense tired out.
