  • That?s not a bad FB schedule.  I was all set to make a trip to El Paso to see them play Sam Houston and was stunned to see the game is in Huntsville.

  • Not picking Ws but AZ, NW, and UNLV are all winnable.  Make or break season for Dimel and should be for Senter as well

I wish I could be as optimistic as you. You must get up smiling and singing in the morning. Not me, I have to play my music to get me in a good mood. LOL, just kidding, I am always singing even if I can't carry a note in a moving van.

The team might win some of the Cusa games but of those three I'd say a big maybe would be unlv.

  • Sorry but I can't help having at least a bit of optimism. So, 8-4 and a bowl win. Also, before May 1st, UTEP accepts an invite from the MWC, or what's left of it.

  • Knowing UTEP, I expect they will lose one of the games to the FCS teams moving up - Jacksonville State, Incarnate Word, or Sam Houston.  These were all very good teams at their former level.  I do think it is weird that they only play Incarnate Word in El Paso.  Also note - JSU is coached by former Michigan head coach Rich Rodriquez.  They?re serious about being dominant at the FBS level.

  • "Also, before May 1st, UTEP accepts an invite from the MWC, or what's left of it."

I saw where Az, ASU, CO, and Utah were in talks with the big12.  With UCLA and USC already leaving the PAC12 is going to be looking to fill a lot of spots, but by then is it going to be a big move up to join whatever is left of the mwc? By then it may be that the mwc and cusa combine into one viable conference.

"Knowing UTEP, I expect they will lose one of the games to the FCS teams moving up... "

Is that based on decades or just the Dimel team?

They have Rodriguez and they are serious.  Serious question, do you think anyone ever said they are coached by Dimel.  They're serious?
(That is a lot of seriouses)

I read where Cowboys OC wanted to open up the offense and the head coach said their was a difference of opinion, that he wanted to save his defense.   CMP told me the spread was great if it was working, but if it wasn't the defense got no rest. Dimel is trying to split the difference.  Can't pound and can't throw it all over the place.  Offensively.  But defensively, he has allowed the defense to catch their breath.  But has trouble doing it against some teams.  Of course that is my opinion and who has any idea of what the "process" will bring us in the new year.  Here's to Spring Ball.

"Sorry but I can't help having at least a bit of optimism. So, 8-4 and a bowl win. "

In my orange fevered state the Miners could win almost every game.  But the basketball team has just finished that off for the moment and my orange tank will need time to refill.

UIW  won at Nevada last season, had a great year and promptly lost their HC and OC (former UTEP QB) and the best offensive players transferred to Texas State to remain with their coach. Total guesswork as to how good they will be this season.

Jax St had a very good 1st season under RR and won at Florida St in 2020 with the previous coach. They were smoked by Tulsa this past season but they will certainly be good.

UTEP's home slate is attractive this year and if they can win, the attendance should improve.

Good points about JSU and Incarnate Word.

Let me just add (since I live in Huntsville), SHSU went 5 - 4 last year.  The HC decided not to try and play 10 games because (1) they weren?t eligible for FCS playoffs and (2) they decided to redshirt nearly all the holdover starters from the 2021 where they played 21 games (20 - 1) in 12 months and won the FCS national championship (in May 2021).

I have no idea what to expect from this year?s team.  They?ll have players back from the National Championship team and many good recruits, but the OC they had last year sucked and he was fired.  The QB play was spotty all year, and the O Line had health/depth issues.

SHSU also starts the year playing BYU, Air Force, and Houston before heading into CUSA play.  I?m guessing they think this will get them ready for CUSA games.  I?ll be looking forward to the UTEP/SHSU game in Huntsville.

  • What's Gavin Hardison now?  Like 36 and contemplating retirement?
