  • With a minute and a half to go up by forty and Miners are diving on the floor for stolen balls!

  • This team is so gritty. I know I have said that before, but they are not afraid to scrap.

  • First game I've been able to watch. LOVED these guys.  They were so much fun to watch.  Sure they were a little rough at times, there was a stretch in the 2nd where they were coasting a bit, etc.

But they played their hearts out.  It was like a team full of Agnews with more skill.  Even though they did overpass, I loved it.  They were all willing to give the shot up to the other guy, and that will serve them down the stretch.

Win or lose, I can get behind these guys and coach

  • This is the kind of team I have been looking for for some time.  It has a balance of offensive strength in the paint and shooters able to hit their open shots. They play like they aren't selfishly trying to make themselves the star, and because they feast off of turnovers everyone is getting shine time.  The thing is, you can tell they came to play and Golding is rewarding them by getting them on the floor to get better.  Seriously, forty point lead and they are diving for steals.  The Miners couldn't back off on the gas pedal because they were just playing hard and the chances were there because of their hustle.  There was a Bear that used to roam the Don Haskins Center that might even smile at what Golding is doing.  A little one. This team is going to be special.  He found talent and already has them playing like a team that has been together for a long time.  They are going to get better as time goes by.  They are a giant killer in the making.

So, we know Golding can coach, and we now know that he can find talent.  I love that!

  • Year after year the Lobos come into El Paso a little cocky because all those years have shown that they can keep up with the Miners. Wow, not this year, I was totally surprised that the Miners won by 40. Normally it ends with Miners winning by 15 or so. There definitely wasn't any doubt how much better this years Miners are.

Congrats on the win and I hope that we can beat some good teams this year. The Aggies, er, Ugglies are one of those good teams and almost came back but the Miners persevered which is a good sign.

    Go Miners!

  • Great win, but a horrible game. League play will hit us hard. We can't hit jumpers or free throws & other teams will be ready for that.

100% agree. Terry brought talent, scoring, size, athleticism, etc. But, & that's a big but, he couldn't coach or bring teams together. His best job will be where he is at now.

  • I think we have a keeper in Golding.

Which of you would have thought we'd have a game where we went 1/18 from 3, 51% on free throws, outrebounded by 10, outrebounded on offensive glass by 10, no McKinney, Frazier out most of the game, and win?

So many excuses to lose, but they fought every minute.  Obviously the players have their part, but it's the coach that keeps their head in the right place.  I guarantee they believe.

Our offense is lacking and we will lose some games, but this is how you win when nothing is going right.

  • Good to have a really tough opponent in OOC, go 2 OT's, be pushed to your limits and fight thru adversity to get the W. This was a great learning and bonding experience for the Miners. Always better to learn while winning. Let's not forget how tough Alcorn St is. Excellent effort by the Braves.

  • Alcorn State is tough tough!  Talk about playing tough defense!  I was concerned about our ability to make easy shots but there weren't many of those.  Givance is a fine floor general, but offensively I am afraid we may be playing with the points needing to come from other than him.  I reminded myself that much of our firepower was not on the floor for much of the game.

I thought the game was determined when they called the foul on the three-point shot and they could see that it was a shit call that was going to be the game, so they called the technical which was bullshit to tie it up.  But it was a barnburner of a game.  Alcorn State is going to win a lot of games with their defense.

I wondered as we played who would win a game between this Miner team and last years with Golding at the helm of both teams.  It is early and tough to say based on a few games, but Boum was special.  I think Givance will be very good at what he does, but the offense is going to give the dge to Boum.  Sibley, Kalu, and Onyema are a push.  So, it is Frazier, Solomon, De Los Anjos, and the others that have to be as good as those who left.

  • We won with a miserable showing as far as shooting? It seems to me minus the tough defense the only thing we are doing differently is changed the look on the faces of this Miner team with the old one that was also terrible at shooting. If we can shoot our easy layups like we couldn't last year we will win more games than then because it used to burn me up to see a guard going into the layup and missing a shot that most women who play basketball and much shorter could make. If we can make those layups then we will put points in the scoreboard even if they have to dunk it which the old Miners didn't do well either last year.

  • TAM CC is destroying Alcorn State 37 23 with 5 minutes+ in the first half.  Wow, what does that say about our future games?  lol
