Back to lamenting. Maybe UTEPDefense or someone can explain to me how it is that Kugler, the professional offensive line coach, and Dimel could spend ten years building a run oriented offensive line and we still can't run. We quickly became one dimensional. It seems that we have all "power" running backs. Translated, that means they help push the line forward to gain a yard(when we need five). When Awatt was running sideways trying to get outside it was like he was wearing cement shoes. Don't get me wrong, he should have been powering through a hole between the tackles, but that wasn't happening, I guess.
It just kind of seems to me that balance is always kind of elusive for the Miners. Price's teams couldn't run the ball to control the clock and keep the defense fresh. Kugler comes in and spends years running into brick walls to build a offensive line to break brick walls. Finally, Dimel came in and pretty much kept it going for three years. Trust the process. Whatever the process was, Hardison seemed to force Dimel to pass the damned ball and shock of shocks, it worked better than brick breaking. So, now it appears we have completed the swing all the way to passing every down, since we can't break brick walls very well.
Week one was a ball buster and now we go to Norman to play OU. One dimensional passing UTEP is going to...ah Hell.
