  • It's simple. UTEP started playing under par teams. Now that some of the other teams that started poorly are adjusting. I said this before, if we play in a bowl game, UTEP will be exposed. Why, because other programs adjust better.

    ...and they beat us without the slant pass. LOL

    I'm sick to my stomach from anger. I don't wish a bowl game for this team. They're a disappointment even with 6 wins. This game should have been won by a greedy Miner team not this one, it has no killer instinct.

    Now on to the other game the BB game with Enemas U.

  • The wheels have come off.  Hardison gets worse every game.  The O line gets worse every game.  I don't think we win another game this season.

  • I am tickled orange.  Two of the top rushing defenses clashed and I think ours ended the game as the better defense.  And I still think Hardison is great.  I know, I know, all about opinions and such.  He has 1 receiver.  We were in position to win the game.

    But, I see things that just make me wonder.  I see running backs running like they have their eyes closed.  Like they sometimes have open holes in front of them and they find the one guy that has gotten into the backfield and run into his arms.  The play before the second UTEP td the UTEP offensive line have driven the Mean Green backwards into the end zone and the running back got stuffed going outside by the guy who should have had a rear view of the running back scoring.  I see defensive backs that seem to be covering phantoms.  There is one that I have seen do weird assed shit all season.  I just don't understand two db's covering one receiver, one right stride for stride, or trying to, and another db running stride for stride with the receiver but parallel to the receiver but 7 yards away.  Like he is covering the receiver's invisible twin!?  And someone has pictures of someone with goats.  Something, because half of the incomplete passes should be caught.  Cowing can't do it all.  I won't say a name but there is one player who just must be the all time nicest kid in the world because there has to be better options.

    I said I tickled and I am.  I started the year hoping with little hope that we wouldn't be the worst team or in the top 5 let's say of football.  We are actually pretty darned good.  Not great, but pretty good.  I am writing about a 7th win that was within our grasp!  Seriously, I expectations have been exceeded beyond belief.

  • We obviously need a new special teams coach, and I would still make Dimel relinquish play calling.
    Our secondary is really weak, they were just bailed out in the early games by a devastating pass rush.  Better teams have been able to negate that.

    Hardison killed drives by throwing into the dirt to wide open guys, and his classic lock onto a receiver from the snap and throw to him regardless of whether he's in triple coverage.  He's got an arm but no accuracy except the occasional bomb and bad decision making.

    Our run blocking is bad, but I do agree that Hankins in particular seems to look for defenders to run into.

    And yes, we are light years ahead of the team we were when Dimel took over.  Back then we would have lost to a lot of FCS teams.
    We still should beat Rice at home for a 7 win season.  But will we?

    OTOH imagine being a UT fan.

  • Question for those of you that know more about football offenses.  It seems to me, and feel free to correct me, that our run plays take a lot longer to develop than other teams.  Is that real or just my perception?  And if real, is it a fundamental part of the way the play is designed, slow reactions by the runner, bad form by the QB, or what?

  • I think it depends on the running back coach. Some wait for a hole to open and some want the hole to be hit quickly. Both has advantages based on the line skill level. I see both scenarios with thus team.

  • Note the number of non cartel qb's ahead of Hardison and the number of cusa qb's ahead of him.

    Here is a link to the play by play.  Just go through the Hardison passing.  Almost every time it's either complete or pressured.;
