All high school sports in Texas are on hold until May 4th at the earliest. IMO I think all high school sports in Texas are done for the year.

This really sucks, and not just for the people that contract the virus. Last week I had to tell my seniors that they may have played their last tennis match. Right now the season is still a go for April 10 but I have my doubts. It also sucks for all the seniors in my economics/government classes. They will most likely not have a prom or even get to walk across the stage at a graduation ceremony. I am in totally agreement that we need to do the things that are being done to limit exposure and keep the contraction rates down. I was seriously considering submitting for retirement after spring break but I came to realize how lucky I am to have the job that I do. Our world has changed and I am just hopeful that it is for the better and we needed this to wake up.

The money is here in El Paso, kind of. You have the five families of El Paso, but what emotional ties do they have to UTEP? Did they graduate from UTEP? Their Kids? I believe the answers are no. It is up to UTEP alums to pick up the slack then. The problem with this is that most UTEP alums are hard working people with not a ton of extra cash to give to UTEP. In addition, more recent graduates have massive student debt. Would be great if UTEP could start an endowment for athletic coaches. If UTEP has trouble getting graduates to join the alumni association then how can we expect people to give large sums of money for athletics. That leaves it up to conference affiliation and CUSA sucks major ass when it comes to money from television deals. When UTEP did not push to get in the MWC a few year back we almost doomed ourselves to the situation we are in.

Sun Bowl only seats about 43k now with the ongoing renovations.

We haven't played anybody of national relevance yet. We will need to beat NMSux, win the Sun Carnival and the Diamond Head Classic to even have a shot at being ranked.

First off. Archie is a guard and not a SF. I also don't understand how people think Lathon is not good handling the ball. To date he has 8 turnovers, which is the lowest of the three guards who play extended minutes. One of the reasons he transferred from TCU was because he wanted to play guard. The key with CRT is the ability of players to defend multiple positions. This is why CRT did not like Gilyard and McGee. They were a defensive liability when they would switch on defense. Archie can defend the 1-3 spots and possibly the 4. I also wonder if CRT will use some zone defenses like Syracuse. I think with the length of this team, it would/could give other teams fits.

Luster Goodwin would have been the best but there was no 3 point shot at that time.

84-85 was my sophomore year at UTEP. We camped out for tickets to the games so that we could be on the first row. We heckled the hell out of the visiting team. I am actually ashamed of the stuff that we said. Players from the visitors often flipped us off and cussed at us. I took that as a badge of honor at the time.

You forgot the scandal about UTEP having to forfeit the WAC tournament win over Hawaii in 1990, because Kevin Beal was declared ineligible.

Does anyone remember that I said this years team was capable of a sweet 16 run and at the very least the finals of the NIT?

The team is ready. Trust me. I will be shocked if one of two things don't happen this year.
1. An NCAA tournament bid
2. A deep run in the NIT

You might have to go back to the mid 80s to find a UTEP team as talented as this one.

It was a great game. I just wish the officials had made the right call on the fumble. That missed call changed the whole game. Eastwood had all the momentum but it was taken away on that play. Very proud on the guys and the coaching staff, that have had a lot to deal with this past week. I also want everyone to know that Plano treated Eastwood with total class. Jerry Jones was also great, in addition to the city of Frisco. Just glad I got to be there. Eastwood's quarterback is the real deal. UTEP has been talking to him since last year and Coach Dimal has been on campus to watch and speak with him. I have seen lots of kids and I can tell you there is something special about Christian Castaneda

My input on HBU. To say they don't have scholarship athletes is incorrect. They do just not as many as UTEP. Their quarterback had interest from A&M, SMU, Rice and others but none of them offered and he went to HBU. Playing an FCS school in the first week is way different than later in the year. FCS schools are only allowed 63 scholarships to FBS schools 85. As far as the offensive line goes, the pass blocking was ok when HBU did not blitz. The problem was the line did not pick up the blitz packages and stunts well at all. That has to improve and I think it will. UTEP had a horrid 3rd quarter. The pick 6, the bad snap for a safety and the muffed punt on the 10 yard line led to 16 points. Take those mistakes away and UTEP wins the game by 18 points and convers the spread. We also had issues in the secondary but Ykili Ross gave me some hope. They guy has only practiced with the team for a week so communication in the secondary was an issue as well. This team is better than the teams the last 3 years and will improve. I am still expecting 4-5 wins this year.

I do think the football team will win at least 5 games and if other teams have the injury bad luck we had last year then the team could win 6-7.
