No penalties passing and running. 7 to 7
14 7 LA Tech still no penalties and the Miners defense is slowing them down and making them drive the length of the field. So far the Miners look like a football team!
fumble recovered by LA Tech but we were ripping them until then. lol
Locksley fumble LA Tech
Personal Foul UTEP
28 7 Damn! Shooting ourselves in the foot! We are easily capable of keeping up with them running and passing, and playing defense! But we shoot ourselves in the feet so much we have to be running out of feet.
14 of the 28 points came from fumbles and one was when we were going in to score. Without them the score would be 14 14.
It is now 35 7. They earned it and it would now be 21 to 14 without the fumbles. Two thirds of the way through the third quarter.
Locksley fumble LA Tech ball.
TD LA Tech 42 to 7
It would still be 21 to 14 without the fumbles. To LA Tech! Instead Miner ball makes it 42 to 7.
TD Miners! 42 14 would be tied wo the fumbles.
Another Locksley fumble but recovered by UTEP
UTEP interception
Touchdown UTEP!

If “Ifs” were fifths our offense would be easier to swallow.

I know, but the Miners have not gotten the penalties and without the fumbles they would be tied( I think lol). My point is that Dimel didn't fumble the ball and without the fumbles the miners would be right there in this game.

I will grant that the offense showed some signs of life. If the O line was a whole hell of a lot better they might be able to overcome the issues caused by a disorganized coaching staff. More on that another day.

The solid improvement in penalties showed signs of good coaching. We only had 3 for 30 yards tonight. It’s a few weeks late in my opinion, but I guess it’s better to improve slower than desired, rather than not at all. Now the key will be can we repeat this discipline next week and over the next 5 games, showing that it is a true improvement/correction.
This was also our best pass blocking game this season and we showed this improvement against a decent opponent.
The defense had a poor performance and we are not getting top production at LB, but La. Tech is also the number one offense in the conference, so maybe a little of this was to be expected.
Overall, despite the blowout, I do admit that I feel a little bit better about things after tonight’s game than I did before the game. Also, regardless of what happens over the next 5 weeks, I would still feel better if Canales is gone at the end of the season.
