I know that it won't come anywhere to the last two games so I have to lower my expectations. I don't have any inkling about how good this team is and I don't even know which conference theyre in. It's a wild guess without facts. I think Utep can win this game and I'm glad that it'll be on Cbscs. That way I can record it and watch it later if I can't live.

Go Miners! 😎🤙🤙

This should be a real game. They play bball and beach volleyball well. Thing is I have no idea of how good our team is. I think they are going to be pretty good.

UCSB made it to the big dance last year and are pre-season favorites to win the Big West. They lost at home last night to Portland State.
Can't tell if UTEP is any good but at least they had some fun vs a div 3 team and an naia team.

Wow, Sisy missed a perfect score by 4. Good job Sis.
-
Sis made a lucky guess. It does appear this team can score -- a welcome change from the last several years. And from the other sport.

Man can I say that I hate that where we're at as a program is that KVIA is calling beating UCSB in El Paso a "statement win".
-
yep. It is a ridiculous statement that is somewhat true. In the past, it would have been the proper preseason tune up. A speed bump. The fact that it is now a statement truly is a statement.

I think that they said that mainly because the Gauchos are picked to win the Big West and that's by a large margin. They are good but I was surprised that we are better. I think people that our Miners are getting to where we all wished that they were. Perhaps, and it might be a stretch, that we have a chance of winning the conference.
I saw a little sore spots but they can be fixed. Firstly, their free throw shooting especially by Kalu. He's our version of the Shaq, he can't hit the side of a barn. The others aren't that great either. The other is their layups. I have to admit that by the second half they were getting better. They still have to get better though because there's no reason being so tall and close to the rim that they can't make their layups.
I love their court pressure, it showed in the first few minutes that the Gauchos were not prepared for it and even during the game they were giving them trouble with the close defense postures.
I'm old enough to remember Haskins style of play and even though it's much faster their defense is stoic like the Don. I'm loving this years version of Miner ball and I hope they continue to get better. They certainly have better players than last years for sure.
-
Defense would put something close to a smile on Haskin?s face. He could fine tune it a little but it is close.
Offensively I was pleased to see what was recognized offensive play. Also, would make The Bear a little less cranky. He could win with these guys. I think Golding can, too.

Sure, but when -- other than during Rab -- would we have considered the team favored to win the Big West a statement? Maybe some years a tough game, especially when NMSU was there, maybe not even expected to win. But not a statement. A statement would be beating a mid-conference power conference team.
Unfortunately, I could not watch the game, only listen. But I have to think that if we have a fairly poor outing in terms of shooting percent and particularly from the 3, and score 86 against a respectable opponent, then we have made some solid improvement offensively.

Well, UCSB did make the ncaa tourney last season and is favored to win the Big West again this year. They are no slouch. Statement win? No, but a solid win against a good team.

100% agree. It's a solid win that we would have lost each of the last roughly 10 years.
