So far I've been right. The secondary gave the Lobos an easy TD.
I'm surprised that the Miners stopped the Lobos on fourth down. I'm hoping this gives the Miners momentum.
For those out of towners it's Lobos 7 Miners Zilch.

After a Miner field goal the Lobos answer with one of their own.
Lobos 10
Miners 3
Still anyone's game.
-
If you're interested: In the third quarter Hawaii leads Enemas U. 17-13
-
Lobo field goal: Them 13-Us 3
This is like the blind horse, it don't look too good.
-
We can't generate any offense.
-
How are we doing in time of possession?
-
TOUCHDOWN MINERS!
Lobos 13
Miners 10
-
Cowing with a UTEP TOUCHDOWN!
UTEP 17
Lobos 13
-
UTEP intercepts but get nothing. Field goal try of 47 yards is no good. Lobos start at around 25 yard line.
Good chance for points and we get nothing. shucks.
-
Final score in Enemyland due north.
Hawai'i 41
Enemas U. 21
-
Miners field goal is good, they lead by 7.
UTEP 20
Lobos 13

MINERS WIN! We're three and one. Wooooohooooo!
MINERS 20
LOBOS 13

Who would have thought that it would be a stifling defense that would be the real difference. Fun to watch. Seems to me that a new OC and new DC may have helped.
-
When was the last time we made the better half time adjustments? Dare I say UTEP outcoached them?
-
We hung on by our fingertips and won. Agree that we made better halftime adjustments.
Really wish Dimel wouldn't take his foot off the gas when we are up 4. Every time he goes super conservative our offense shuts down completely. The defenses know what to expect and we go 3 and out. He does this in the red zone a lot too.
Basically Hardison has a cannon for an arm, but the ball is all over the place both long and short balls. Cowing and Garrett are just athletic enough to make the plays anyway. The other WR aren't.
D looked pretty good except at first. I think the DC is a keeper.
Looking ahead, there is still a path to 6 wins but it's a narrow one. We have to beat ODU and Rice and one other team. It could be So Miss, or UNT is looking weak.
I struggle with my attitude about Dimel. I can see the improvements, but I feel like offensively it's like we are driving a car and 3/4 of the time Dimel has pulled half the spark plugs. Our offense could be much better and more dominant than it is, and that is due to the HC.

I was unable to watch the game, but kept checking my phone for scores. It seemed that the Miners pulled ahead quickly in in the 2nd half and then just sat on the ball & let the clock tick away. Most coaches would pit the foot on the gas except Dimel. He is a very low risk play caller. It's boring as Hell, but it's working so far. I have issue with this, but I will keep my mouth shut until the end of the year, because I like winning 1st.

I would be OK with opening up a 10 pt lead and then sitting on it with our running game. But shutting it down up less than a touchdown is going to bite us in the butt one of these games.
-
I agree Sisy, but I think that this team is different than the other ones we've had. This ones don't give up when down.
-
Dimel is trying to turn every game into a mud fight. Even if UTEP wins, it is going to come out full of mud and looking like an ugly win. I guess if UTEP is able to dictate the tempo of the games, by forcing most opponents to come into the mud to fight them, then that's a positive....maybe? And I guess the argument might also be made that this sluggish style of football can also be more effective once we hit the colder months at the end of the season.
The only thing is that last night UTEP had bigger and faster defensive athletes(particularly in the front 7). The same can be said for 3 of our first 4 games, so maybe we shouldn't be trying to muck up and shorten every game just to win. If looking for a big positive, I don't think that we have played a great and complete half this entire year, yet we are 3-1, so we should theoretically still have some room to grow/improve.

This team has shown some fight. They may be beginning to believe in themselves, and that's something we haven't had in a very long time. Even in the Kug bowl year I'm not sure they believed. Probably have to go back to the Price years. They are learning how to win, and that can make all the difference in close games.
I don't think I could say they are good, but they don't suck and that's something. They show flashes of being OK. The only respectable team we have played beat us like a rented mule. Let's see what respectable CUSA teams do to us.
ODU is another must win game for Dimel. We have to win our home winnable games to believe we have made progress.
